Andy Street's mayoral campaign is an interesting one. It involves local TV personalities from the 70s and 80s like Gary Newbon and Jasper Carrot saying what a great bloke he is and ignore that he's a Conservative. The real bloke stuff doesn't wash when you know who his casual partner is.

To be honest it's not really a position where your party allegiance makes much difference either way, and he does speak well for the area. He's not a corrupt bastard like that piece of work Ben Houchen on Teesside and he doesn't run the office for personal vanity as Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson did in London.

But then he could and possibly even should just disavow the Tories altogether and stand as an Independent if he genuinely does strongly oppose what the sitting Government do.

Not fair to judge someone based on their personal relationships really, is it. And while I don't think anyone on here thinks along these lines, there's more than a whiff of homophobia about that line of attack.
