Leeds (H) 18/3 - Build-Up and Match Thread

After today I'm between a rock and a hard place over Kilman or Collins, they both look like absolute liabilities. One thing I'm sure of, Paul, you'll be shocked at this, is that Podence should never, ever pull on a Wolves shirt again. He's a complete and utter waste of skin with an appalling attitude and isn't even half as good a player as he thinks he is. He's worse than a liability, he actively makes the opposition more of a threat. Don't sell him just fucking release him to some other poor saps who'll have him.

Kilman has had his chance alongside Dawson. Collins should get his turn now.

I could honestly make an argument for Lemina at RB and Semedo at LB with Nunes in the middle instead too, but that's just me I suspect.
Please make that argument, would love to hear it.

It wasn't me who keep saying Lemina could play RB in the signing press release! Though I didn't say I'd win the argument with myself... RAN should be good enough against Leeds, I rate him but he was hardly endorsing himself in the last game

I don't believe in jinxs. Leeds have taken 2 points from their last 8 away games. Need a Liverpool H type of start.
Adams is out for them

No interest in playing Collins as he's a bigger liability than Kilman, or Ait Nouri as he doesn't seem interested in defending.
Lemina looked unfit, slow and a waste of a shirt against Newcastle and actively put the back four under pressure when we had the ball.
We need players to show for the ball in midfield and the back four need to play higher up the pitch when getting the ball off Sa and playing out from the back.

He played quite a few rushed or blind passes during the Newcastle game. If he cuts them out he should be fine.

Agree with some if this but a bit harsh on Lemina?
He was poor on Sunday but that's one bad game since he came in and all of his other games he's been motm or close to it. He'd be one of the first on the team sheet atm with Neves and Dawson (also poor on Sunday)

Selecting Kilman on this forum is either very brave or incredibly foolish.

Don't even think Lemina was that bad against Newcastle. Had a few clumsy moments but sometimes a player makes 2 or 3 dodgy passes, fans decide that they're having an absolute stinker and ignore anything positive.

Also ignores the 'why?'. I don't think he was misplacing passes because he'd suddenly got the yips and couldn't pick out a gold shirt. He was trying to force passes which is either because Newcastle were cutting off passing lanes or the movement of our forward players wasn't good enough. Tactical issue for me, not a personal one. Happens all the time in this league with the amount of time/money teams pour into tactical analysis, players and teams get worked out. If that is the case then it's up to us now to put him in situations where we can continue to maximise his strengths.

Similar issue for Matheus. Teams very rarely put pressure on him now (shame that Leeds sacked Marsch as he might've actually been stupid enough to do it) as they know his biggest strength is his ability to evade it and carry the ball forward. Means that he's attempting passes he wouldn't normally and trying too hard to get himself in situations where he can dribble past people.

Possibly, but there's no one else. I did actually think of putting Neves in the back four, but didnt want a forum ban as I'm about to smash the Cheltenham tipster comp 😆

I agree with most of your comments and a lot was down to Newcastle's tactics.
I thought besides his poor passing when we had the ball, he was a yard slow when we didn't. Numerous times he went to close a Newcastle player down with the ball and by the time he got there, the ball had gone.
He had a really good game on debut, but I suppose a lot depends on the speed of the opposition's 'press'. I thought Newcastle's press was very sharp Sunday and we couldn't handle it.
It makes I doubly hard when the three areas of the team are so far apart and players are not showing for the ball. We're playing the ball six yards out and the 'front three' are 60 yards away.

I think with Lemina, we've got to accept that there's a reason we picked him up for £10m, and a reason that he's had 7 clubs in the last 8 years. He's had games where he's looked outstanding, and will have more. He's had games where he's looked poor-to-meh, and he'll have more. It's the nature of players of that profile. I'm probably against popular opinion on this one, but I'd be pretty disappointed if he was viewed as the guaranteed starter he is today by the time we line up on September 1st.

That's not to say he hasn't been impressive and doesn't represent food value of course, and he's well worth a place in the matchday squad and rotating in depending on the game

A player that will do a job in this particular fight. Whether there is anything more long term I guess we wait to find out.

I think he, Sarabia and Dawson were all signings for this season with beyond that being tbd

*breaks glass*

Is that Boubacar Traore's music?

Lemina is currently as important in that midfield as Neves atm. He's keeping Nunes out. How it looks next season, we'll see, we have no idea who will be here and what spots open up (and how the likes of Traore are faring).

There are far more pressing spot fires up the pitch.
