Leeds (A) 18/04: Build-Up & Match Thread

There’s a really bizarre narrative that rather than make structural / systemic changes we should stick with what we’ve done so that we don’t get embarrassed and maximise points. See above on this thread, and the Wolves Fancast. Despite us getting embarrassed with this exact system in just the last game. Laughable.

I wasnt backing the idea BTW...just saying that's what it looks like and can understand if he is doing that but the reasons for it kind of collapse after the West Ham game.

He has no choice on the keeper today...rest is on him and sticking with the "attacking" options from the last game doesn't fit in to that narrative. That's just fucking piss poor.

*checks table*

Yep, I see no possibility for embarrassment this season

Like, what do folks want to avoid?

There is no excuse to not play Tolu after that pathetic front line in the last match.
And that's the best counter to the points Punts has been raising. The squad is shite, it would go down whoever was in charge. I also think Tolu is shite, but last week you could see that front 3 wasn't going to work within the first 5 minutes. He spent too long before changing it and starting with it again this week is bizarre. The only way he gets a pass for it is if Angel has said he's staying and he's trying to embed that 3 for next season, but that seems unlikely

I agree there is some argument he could come in (Tolu). Although I think he’s just added to the long list of players who get better when they’re not in the team. Tolu, Mane and Rodrigo were all horrific when they came on last week so there’s and argument they played their way out the lineup too.

We have zero hope of holding the ball up or having any physical presence with the front three he’s picking. As TT said above, it was obvious after 5 minutes last week. It’s absolutely mental that he’s picked it again.

That’s the end of the discussion, really.

As I said I don't rate him, but we've got to have someone to try and hold the ball up for others to play off and he's all we have. We were 3-0 down when he came on last week, so although I think your comment is fair where Rodrigo and Mane are concerned I don't think it is for him.

It’s just very predictable how this will pan out, we’ll be competitive to begin with then completely fall away as the goes on and the substitutions will be far too late

Good passage of play there and Armstrong moves to the near post/for the pull back, Bellegarde still has time and floats it to the goalkeeper in the middle. Total waste.

Andre marking Calvert Lewin from a set piece. Very bright one that! Bentley has hoofed the ball in the air towards Armstrong 4 times already.
Are we really that thick?

I don’t think we *have* to play that way at all. We’ve been “successful” playing it into the 10s feet. We weren’t particularly successful hammering it into Tolu to bounce off at right angles. Pick your poison, it’s all shit.

I know the squad is shit, but we’re defo getting worse again. At least fucking try you wasters. Bentley playing on his own

Rob letting the momentum from Villa and Liverpool completely slip away is the nail in the coffin for me.
