Landmark Klaxon!

That whole thing was a fucking scandal from start to finish. Council planning lawyers were finalising listing it when the bulldozers went in overnight.
Pedant alert, it was the weekend, with the Monday earmarked for granting listing status.

I believe that after this incident there was legislation introduced to help prevent this happening again in the future, in that buildings under consideration were afforded protection and those who went against it could be forced to rebuild the property.

Sadly too late for the E&C but not this one, although most property developers use shell companies so not sure how effective it can truly be in most cases

Library upgrade, and other work around it, combined with the news the old wulfrun college site in paget Rd will become housing. Wonder if the old Compton park site will also be housing. Always felt it's been a shame how Compton Park was effectively killed off. It was always busy & popular when I were a lad. Loads of activities in the school holidays, & the facilities were used by St Peters & St Edmunds too.

i don't understand the obsession with a multi screen cinema. with streaming etc, and especially post pandemic aren't all cinema chains struggling?

Its weird but our local cinema is always busy - they do monthly passes and loads of people take them out.

Don't under estimate people's desire to watch a film and eat buckets of noisy food and waste a fortune.

I think Cineworld are all but fooked.

The good old days of the cinema in Rugeley. 1 screen and my Mum worked there so I got free tickets. I watched a lot of shite in the 80's.
All went wrong when the old guy running it sold up and some group purchased it and added 2 more screens.
Surprisingly, it's a Wetherspoons now

Must admit although I'm not a regular cinema goer, I do love a trip to the flicks, combine it with a meal out and its a nice evening out.
Hardly ever watch films on TV.

As with Syco above, a trip to the cinema for me is more than just watching the film. Plus if it's an action blockbuster it's better on the big screen with the sound blaring. Just try and go when it's not so busy...

I’m amazed so many people can afford to go to the cinema. The prices are scandalous.

It is ridiculous, but it's cheaper than the twenty quid to stream a new release at home (obviously, if you have family/friends then it becomes cheaper pp at home...)

I refuse to pay for that too!

I’m not that fussed about films anyway tbh. We only ever watch kids films these days (with my kids obviously).

Unless you're really unlucky though, you don't have to share your living room with awful cunts who won't shut up and can't go five minutes without grazing on food.

Some films definitely lend themselves better to the cinema but I haven't liked the overall experience for decades, people don't have a clue how to behave.

Lighthouse is a great little cinema in a truly beautiful building. Wolverhampton should be doing everything in their power to save, promote and develop it before ploughing money into tempting a rank multi-screen hell hole into opening up in the city.

You not got kids mate?

Oh yeah, there's an exception on the "experience" front.

Went to see the Maradona film at the Lighthouse and as it's a niche offering it was great to watch there. Don't actually think it was very expensive either.

I've been off peak a couple of times and been the only person there. I did have to pop out once and ask them to start the film because they'd forgot.
When I lived in Manchester there was a little old skool cinema down the road. Everything was at least a couple of months old, but it was 1/4 the price of the multiplex, and five minutes walk away, cracking place.
