Well I do sort of agree. That’s why a volume pedal is handy for solos so you don’t have to sit too high in the mix with your regular sound in order to cut above it when going for a lead.

The gain to max sound is pretty lazy. Better to stick a very high gain channel on with the gain on about two thirds and then stick a distortion pedal in front of it. Sounds miles less flabby.

Brum is awful for music venues, I've not enjoyed any of them.

The Civic was a great venue, big enough to get a few bigger bands in and small enough to get a really good atmosphere. The acoustics were always spot on, I'm praying that it still works and that the new operators get it back on the circuit as a genuinely good venue.

In the main I agree. Although I went to the hummingbird, that and the new academy are best avoided.
However the institute is a good venue, although can get a bit crowded. The town hall is good, and symphony Hall is amazing, but niche.
I can tolerate the night, but not really a fan of massive venues.

Must admit I like the Robin as a venue, its just a pity they don't have more interesting acts on (for me) but I suppose it's the tribute bands and legacy acts that bring the punters in.
Haven't had chance to try KKs yet but want to give that a chance.

his Snakepit and Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, tbf both vocalists in those bands had quite weedy voices.

Never been to the Robin! Kks I went once, and pillars aside it has a lot going for it. Minor grumble in the concrete floor starts to impact you after a while. Loads of people raved about the speed of service at the bars, and there's a massive space for merch. It does seem to focus only on rock/heavy music and it'd be grand if they widened their market. They also have lots of rehearsal space that bands apparently love.

his Snakepit and Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, tbf both vocalists in those bands had quite weedy voices.

Worst I saw was Zakk Wylde with Black Label Society. Miles louder than the rest of the band and an ego step front centre of the stage to stand on and wail out the solos (of which there were actually far too many). Miles better with Ozzy to keep him in check!

Yeah I think I've had this discussion with you previously but I can never keep up with the venues changing names in brum. Ive been to fair few gigs over there and the medium sized venues just seem woeful to me, all of them with issues. Theres a couple of smaller ones, the Bar fly when I went down digbeth that were ok. I think I've been spoilt with the Civic,.

I know what you mean with larger venues, you definitely loose something from the experience, although I've seen some great performances there over the years and the acoustics are alot better these days than they used to be (either that or I'm too mutton jeff to appreciate the difference)

The Robins decent enough, been to a few gigs over there but non post covid, I do like a good cover band though. It is just a warehouse with a stage, bars a bit slow from memory

Elephant and castle pub has been rebuilt at the Black Country museum, even going to have the elephant above the door, it’s been remade especially, I’d like to know where the original is now after it was rescued from the skip it was in.
