Keir Starmer at it again..

Tbh there's no shortage of Labour U-Turn stories for the media to go after. Starmer bullshits at Johnson level.

To be fair what gives even a tiny shit? There is an incompetent buffoon to take down first. But this is old ground and the far left would like to attack Starmer and keep Sunak as then they are still shouting in opposition like they love.

There is one substantial difference if I'm reading it correctly. By charging VAT the burden is being passed on to parents rather than the schools. So it may be a barrier to those who work hard to send their kids to private schools at the lower end of the fee scale, but won't make much difference to those sending their kids to Eton, Harrow, Westminster etc and the schools themselves remain untouched.

I personally fundamentally disagree with private education, but do respect people's personal choices.

Private education isn't the biggest issue in schools in this country, though they absolutely shouldn't have charitable status and VAT should be charged.
State funded religious schools should never have been a thing in the first place, even actually religious countries such as Italy and Spain don't have them.

Nope, the left (or far left) want the Tories out, they just don't want them to be replaced with something that is objectively so similar, surely any non Tory wants that?
Well that isn't on the table is it?

You had your chance and fucked it

Such an open goal and they come put with shite like this.

Darren Jones, the shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, said the Labour party “would love to see HS2 being built in full” but that it was “not going to make decisions about national interest projects that involve tens of billions of pounds without all of the information being available”.

Last week, Labour’s Nick Thomas-Symonds said: “We will build HS2 in full … to Manchester and the eastern leg to Leeds. And we will build ‘northern powerhouse’ rail in full.”

Jones said: “What he means is of course we would like to see the government build HS2 in full.”

He added: “When the government makes a decision and publishes the information, we will consider that properly and announce it in a professional way.”

Without all the information. 😅 You're going into govt not buying a thriving local florist. We were going to cancel HS2 but it turns out Rishi had 200bn stashed under his mattress upstairs. We only found out when Keir had a deep clean done.

Surely wanting to see what money's available vs what money is committed before making promises isn't particularly unreasonable? He could obviously have worded it more aggressively, but the premise seems pretty responsible

There's not falling into a Conservative manufactured trap about how you are going to fund or pay for things but there's also a way of of taking the initiative on such matters. If say there is another £50bn needed to finish the HS2 project but the time frame is over the next 15 years then it's a relatively small amount in the grand scale of the size of the economy to find on a yearly basis. He could call it Labour's pledge to the North and jump on board with business leaders and mayors to push the project forward. A page spread advertising the support in the Times or the Torygraph of who is backing the project would be a "look over there at that article" should any criticism comes in his direction.

This is pretty weak. I get the strategy, that paper will fall in line with anyone who will win comfortably, but don't make the pledge if you can't keep it. When it comes to Starmer I think I'm at the 'better than any Tory' stage amd will vote for him as I did Corbyn, but I can't say I particularly like him.

Chalk up another Labour MP as a mere 20.4% swing delivers the SNP seat in the by election. If the SNP vote collapses and Labour hoover up a load of Scottish seats then their majority will be huge at this rate.

We’ve changed and because we’ve changed we are now the party of the change here in Scotland, we’re the party of change in Britain, the party of change right across the whole country.

I kinda feel like he's trying to suggest that Labour represent change, but think the messaging needs to be a bit clearer

Fairly simple choice though
I have voted anti-Tory since I have been able to vote - that was always Labour where I live but even as a member of the Labour Party I would have voted tactically for Lib Dems or Green if it was the best way to get rid of a Tory. The only useful Tory is a defeated one. It doesn't matter if they are a Thatcherite, a Cameronlite, a Boris acolyte, a smoked Trussock or Rishishite - Tories are just bad for the country and always will be.

That's very good, it'd have taken me ages to have thought of that and got a bit of rhythm into it!
