Keir Starmer at it again..

8000 voted for George Galloway FFS.
Who is going all Trump and demanding a recount/courts step in or some other shit.

I see LD just got over 1000 votes, was this another case of a voters alliance to push Labour over the line?

Not really, they lost about 1k votes since the GE, but on a much smaller turnout

Who were all the people voting for the Workers Party of Britain? If Marxism is so popular there, I presume they all back the taking of the knee?

Is it wrong that I find Starmers replacement to be, Angela Rayner, quite attractive for some strange reason?

He stood on being an anti-semite, seems quite a popular platform in the area.

It was a cracking result for the campaign of Kim Leadbeater. As Tony alluded to earlier, her standing for the seat could have been the only way that Labour held onto it.

Can't understand how the arsewipe of an MP for Mansfield can do that job as well as leading Nottinghamshire County Council yet it isn't possible to be an MP and a regional mayor at the same time.

it seems the tory leaders are already blaming the defeat on matt hancock. that didn't take long...

Decent gag at PMQs by Starmer today stating that he's sure that the whole country will be supporting England tonight apart from the member representing Ashfield.

The optimism about Starmer at the beginning of this thread was interesting to revisit.

He generally does well at PMQs but nobody cares. The Labour Party don’t seem to have been an effective opposition or particularly supportive of the government during the pandemic, whatever opinions they held have struggled to breakthrough. In some respects they have been hindered by headline grabbing government incompetence and successes.

On antisemitism, his most notable achievement seems to have been that he is not Jeremy Corbyn. He has been given a really easy ride on this issue.

In by elections and local government elections he has been hammered, even allowing for the pandemic bounce for incumbent governments, his is not an encouraging record so far.

His shadow cabinet have nothing to say. In the absence of policy, vision or even a vague outline of what they stand for they either offer criticism of the government or some meaningless soundbite about their values.

On the plus side, he’s not Boris Johnson. The Conservatives know this also and will get rid of Johnson when they see him as an electoral liability.

I've been really disappointed with him tbh, when he was appointed I thought he might be the one that got me back to supporting the Labour party....he hasn't

Me three. Starmer can turn PMQ's into the courtroom and his years as a QC allows him to ruin Johnson quite easily but there appears to be a disconnect outside of that which is the real shame because if he/Labour could turn up the pressure several knots so Johnson could feel the pressure from every angle I could see Johnson melting down in PMQ's and revealing himself as the political chancer we all know he is.

Unfortunately, he's not a strong "personality". He's very adept at what he does but he's not a stand out. A Michael Foot in a sharp suit if you like. He's no Tony Blair - he's not slick or exciting or sufficiently different in any way, shape or form. Perhaps Andy Burnham is the answer? I don't know. Fucking annoys me that Johnson's getting such an easy ride though.

Yep.

And at a time when he really should be devoting his time to sticking the knife in on Boris, he/they are instead naval gazing.
He tried that today, came across as opportunistic rather than oppositionist. Step 4 has been known about for months, Delta variant nearly as long, trend in infections isn’t a secret but he waited until today to do…not much. I am not entirely sure what alternative vision he was offering other than “keep masks”.

I agree. It didn’t come over strongly. The busted bit about Johnson and Sunak was better but he seems to be missing open goals delivered by Fat Alex.
