Keir Starmer at it again..

What she has achieved, given her background, is remarkable - I also think she is much more intelligent that some of her comments, and especially the other coverage they get, suggests.

She suffers from a similar problem others on the far left have - they assume they, and only they, are right and their communication with others suffers from that, it’s a built in bias that if you don’t agree with them you are stupid

Whip restored but don’t want her to defend her seat?

I didn’t think you were far left?

She's definitely not stupid at all but she has a habit of engaging mouth before brain.

I would take 100 of her over 1 Natalie Elphicke but that isn't the argument.

Can’t stand the woman personally, typical Corbynite, had to spend her time in the shadow cabinet pretending she would actually like to be part of a Labour government, when, like Corbyn, she’d spent virtually the whole of her political career whinging about the party she belonged to.

There was no such thing as Corbynism or Corbynites for the vast majority of her parliamentary career, the term itself is interchangeable as a term of support or derision depending on your point of view - it isn’t really a thing. The left of the Labour Party have had many high profile figures before Corbyn all of whom have had and expressed differences with the Labour Party, often with justification.

I guess if you want Labour MPs only to hold the party line without ever dissenting then you purge the party of MPs and candidates who disagree with you. This is a tactic that Johnson used in 2019, it didn’t work for long. I don’t believe our politics will ever be served well by homogenous politicians who do not criticise, oppose or seek change…even within their own party.

I get that you don’t believe that socialism is a legitimate ideology that has a place in the modern Labour Party. Congratulations, that is what you have achieved.

Abbot has been an exceptional constituency MP over many years. That, and causes she believes in, have been the main focus of her career. Her shadow cabinet roles have only been a recent addition.

Her gaffes and transgressions are magnified because of her profile. It has shaped perception of her unfairly, her gaffes and transgressions are likely no more or less than anyone else who has been in Parliament as long as she has.

And it’s ok for you to not “stand her personally”, it’s not like you are alone holding that opinion. There are many people who hold that opinion, go stand with them…some of those people are truly appalling and it might give you some perspective about the good that Abbot has done.

I wanted to like this post, but then I’m probably not allowed :)

The treatment of Abbott by the press in the last decade or so has been absolutely deplorable. The way she's been managed by the party isn't much better either.

Yes, her letter on racism was unacceptable and unhelpful; I understand the point she was trying to make but it was very, very clumsy, and it was right that it/she was investigated for it. Being deselected is doing her legacy and her constituents a massive disservice.

How hard would it have been to just say "Dianne, you've been amazing for this party, and for women in politics, and as a constituency MP. You can retain the whip and continue being an MP for as long as you're elected - however, we ask that you stay away from all media. All they want is a gotcha moment. You can do ten good interviews and nobody notices; stumble once and you're viral."

It was politically motivated. This is who Starmer is.

Absolutely. He believes that his national credibility is harmed by association with Dianne Abbott and Jeremy Corbyn. Tbh I don't think he's wrong, either. But treating her respectfully (restoring the whip five months ago, allowing her to stand in the election for Labour, even if it was at arm's length) would have done no material harm to his prospects of getting the keys to number ten.

I honestly think people outside Twitter have long moved on from Corbyn but Starmer chose to make it a thing. There have always been Labour lefties highly critical of the leadership. Because of his unnecessary cuntery this Abbott stuff is on the front page of the Guardian ffs.

I respect all the comments made in defence of Dianne Abbot, I am a lifelong Labour voter, a moderate and a Blairite, I am the type of Labour supporter Abbot, Corbyn, Momentum etc would consider a traitor to the cause.

The rumour is that snivelling little gremlin Akehurst is being lined up for her seat, too.
The Guardian were reporting this yesterday.

Although her fate is officially yet to be decided, three Labour activists with links to Abbott’s constituency – Anntoinette Bramble, the deputy mayor of Hackney council; Sem Moema, the London assembly member for North East; and Mete Coban, a Labour councillor for Stoke Newington – have been widely talked about as possible replacements.
