Johnny75

If all these posts are you 'not bearing a grudge', remind me never to get on your wrong side, mate 😉
I certainly can’t say that my own baggage isn’t tied up in all that. I was bullied ruinously growing up so many of my rows with Johnny cut exceptionally deep, in ways he couldn’t have known.

I was genuinely enjoying being on pleasant terms with him recently. He really can be an excellent guy to shoot the breeze with. And he’s certainly got bags of intellect on topics he cares about.

You're going to lose a lot of colour on here if you allow certain dominant voices to police the place (post after post after post) based on their own narrow sensibilities. And I ain't talking about Alan
How am I "policing" this place?

I've been asked to explain my stance on things, and I have. The outcome is that I've been told I'm a liar and/or that I shouldn't be so sensitive.

I haven't called for J75 to be banned, I didn't report him, I didn't repeatedly make his posting on here a misery by leaving him dozens of notifications whenever he posted, I didn't insult him personally online or in person, I had him on bloody ignore when he was banned!

Yet here I am being told I'm the problem.

So now we circle up, hold hands, and sing Kumbaya, yes?

This is just going round and round in a circle now 🙃

The victim blaming is strong in this thread. Especially for such a precious and supposedly progressive forum, based on other posters opinions on various other subjects. In any other aspect of life that would be seen as obnoxious.

I'm all for the thick skinned, who cares it's just the internet scroll past it attitude and it's one I've generally lived by for years. But as part of the moderating team, you also have to consider that other people might be more sensitive due to personal history, and how it affects the forum in regards people no longer posting or being put off by certain members.

Oh and I second Kenny's suggestion. 1 or 2 extra hands would be welcome when it comes to having a bigger and more even handed voice for the moderating decisions.

Re victim blaming, it's difficult to not at least debate it when EP is a very vociferous supporter of keeping Johnny banned in this thread. As a person I have always found him to be very pleasant when meeting outside of here and he looks to have been mischaracterised here particularly as uncaring. I still think a permanent ban is excessive.

I find it a bit weird that certain reactions like a laughing face elicit such a response from grown men. Do dozens of reactions (which I am guessing are a laughing emoji or maybe Richard Keys or a Lage face) truly make posting a misery. Maybe it's an age thing as I've grown up with the internet and am more used to trolling and much more unpleasant discourse than what happens on TWF but it I find it to be a bit trivial. Maybe we should remove them?

I don't think this is a bad idea.

Or maybe just keep it as a one-function Like button, and if you don't Like the post, or have any other reaction, you have to actually reply properly

Have to say I’m a bit disappointed by this news nevertheless I won’t question the Mods on their decisions, rules are rules.
I found the content of what J75 posted was often very knowledgeable just wish he’d had conveyed it in a more empathetic way at times.
I always go back to the same mantra would you talk to someone in the pub like it or send a work email in the same manner? Absolutely not so don’t do it here.

Or people could just be grown up and just use the laughing emoji as a response to something posted intended as funny rather than a sarcastic holier than thou response.
