Jeremy Corbyn

Glass' private member's bill on electoral reform passes its second reading.

So mainly due to their ineptitude and realising they are fucked on boundary changes and will never be elected again labour try to block it. Hypocrites. An opportunity to wire 50 salaries off the public purse and make each constituency fairer and more demographically similar and Labour use a whip to get a bill to block it. I repeat all politicians are not worth a light. Self interested arrogant bunch who seem in the majority to have forgotten who voted them there and why

An aide to Blair told the Times he was returning to politics because May was a lightweight, and Corbyn a nutter.

Perhaps I should have put the word "allegedly" in the sentence. But while I am not sure of his opinion of May, he has made no secret of his disapproval of Corbyn as leader of the Labour Party.

Below are the comments of a lifelong Labour Party supporter:

Just come from a meeting of trade union officials and labour party members with Jeremy Corbyn.
Have to say he speaks with conviction and you can tell he totally believes in what he's trying to do.
But, his answers to 2016 problems are set in a left wing dogma that was born in the 1960s&1970s. It failed then and it'll be the end of him in 2020.
I also have to say there's something underlying in his entourage. No mobiles, no cameras, no questions that hadn't been seen by them first.
It's not spin doctors, there's something more going on.
All in all he failed to convince me he has the answers we need. Overall given his support team it leaves me concerned for the parties future and because he guarantees a Tory government.

Outside of a small cabal I dont think there are any people who would disagree that Corbyn is a useless leader.

I think the world he espouses would be a wonderful one to live in. But that's not meant to imply I htink its impossible to attain, more that you're not going to combat a 40 year political drift rightwards by standing for election on very left wing platform.

All you acheive is to grant the Tories an even bigger majority which is inimical to your aims.

Hes cultivated a personality cult (the Momentum group) that are 100% devoted to him, and are in the process of deselecting all MPs and PPCs that arent 'loyal', which will further erode the party's power in parliament.

So, in short, I agree with a huge amount of things he advocates, but politically speaking he's a disaster zone.

That said how do you vote? I will never unseat my Tory mp as about 70% of the votes are Tory. Could you vote tactically? Could you bring yourself to voite lib dem to unseat a Tory? I couldn't.
SDP for me if they ever get momentum. Its the only centre party with decent social standards for me.

Cyber - can you remind me again why you have moved away from UKIP now? Is it that their work is done, or is it that they simply cannot get any seats under the current system?

Tto be honest its deeper than that. The policies I wanted to see and brexit have been achieved however the leadership debacle and the non stop farage love in leaves me with no appetite to follow further. I also have a social conscience, am anti hs2 pro fraking in moderation if proved safe, pro retaining some parts of industry and Infa structure under national control such as a bank, and electric company, a gas company, am pro NHS investment, pro social housing, against right to buy in its current form, pro trident, pro union, ambivalent re the monarchy, pro climate change controls, pro legaslisation of cannabis, believe that the welfare state is a safety net not a career choice, pro equality but anti multi culturalism as it doesn't work and cascasuses more tension than harmony, anti capital punishment . Quite a mishmash and have always struggled to really nail my colours to one mast. However post Maastricht I felt very strongly that if we could not adhere to all the club EU rules and requirements then eventually our position may be untenable. I do think that there is a lot of faffing happening re brexit it. J FDI. Does thast lay me a bit bare?
When I did a survey pre election 2015 it showed my views were 60% ukip so it made sense to support them. However I was 54% SDP and even 40% liberal as well so I could easily have gone tghast wasy. Pro pr etc but liberals overall are too wishy washy

Interesting.

As you say quite the mishmash of policies and beliefs in there. I think you are going to be shit out of luck finding one party that covers all of those so you have to look for your best fit.

Agreed. SDP is number 1 going forward!

Well what a surprise. Corbyn is full of praise for Castro. Though he is consistent, he was also full of praise for the IRA.
