Jeremy Corbyn

People who say 'Harperson' are nearly as funny as those who say 'Bliar', but both groups are still less funny than terminal nut cancer.

Whatever your political persuasion, you must recognise that having an effective Opposition is critical to a healthy democracy. Especially in our current state where the Government have tried to enact some appalling legislation over the last 12 months.

This is completely true.

The problem is we have two main parties. Both are engaged in internecine warfare that means they can barely operate. Paralysis and obfuscation abounds for three months. Considering this is the time when this country has needed the most clear leadership and direction since probably 1945 I find that deeply worrying.

Exactly. Should have elected an effective leader. Still the membership knows best I suppose.

Ooh the students are turning on him as well. And the unions are having a meeting later. Hilarious.

The MSM has probably killed off the left wing of the Labour Party and the Proles fall for it . It is NEW NEW Con-Lite Labour.

Apparently he's not got the body language / visuals / style to promote the radical agenda that needs pushing through.

Some are in denial. Hope he continues to fight back ..

That's what we've been trying to tell em in Brussels. But they wouldn't listen, ah well.

Agree wholeheartedly with this. I fear that the inter-party fighting will last longer than 3 months to be honest.

I'd go further than worrying. There have been moments across the past 5 days I have felt genuinely scared.

Good God. What of?

Well the Conservative thing has to be sorted pretty quickly. Either Osborne (or someone else if the new leadership remove him) has got to prepare the Autumn statement for delivery in November. And that statement is going to be fucking loads of fun.

Corbyn is in an absolutely impossible position. He has the rank and file support. He has no parliamentary support. If he withdraws the whip then his MPs will form their own party and defect and Labour pretty much ceases to exist. Just at the time that the Liberals have very few MPs indeed. He has to walk away eventually but then the parliamentary party are going completely against the wishes of the membership so then they are surely committing electoral suicide? What an impossible mess. Say JCorbyn steps down on condition he is on the ballot paper, and he wins the leadership campaign with a clear mandate. What stops the PLP from just doing exactly the same thing as they are doing now. I can't see anything constitutional that could stop them. Whatever happens you are going to have a bunch of MPs who are acting completely against the wishes of the core support that elected them. It's fucking bizarre.

Good God. What of?

The potential implications. The lack of a plan or a map (from anybody at all). And this apparent growth in confrontational nasty aggressive racist behaviour that appears to have arisen in the UK since last friday.

People have campaigned to "make britain great". Can someone campaign to unite this kingdom? I can't see it.

Pretty much agree with your opinion on the Corbyn scenario pads.

On the conservatives, I don't see it being resolved by November. I don't see a quick fix. Cameron hoped the referendum would put paid to ukip and his own euro-sceptics. It backfired phenomenally.

The mud slinging and antagonism and confrontational style of the campaign is surely not going to be forgotten. People will have had their feathers ruffled, and this will carry on into the leadership contest. The referendum campaigns may have worryingly set a trend for political debate in the short term.

That's because a fair few of them are jumped up, public school tossers who want to play at being working class. They are sticking two fingers up at the people they expect to vote for them at election time

Ha !

Don't worry, Uncle Peter will make sure you'll get a couple of left wingers in the new cabinet supporting the new Con-Lite leader.

All will then be well ..

Pat Glass resign after 2 days.

A record for any shadow cabinet. Even Emily Thornberry has declared this a dark and difficult time for the Labour Party. Cameron is right though.

Too many old, white men you see ..

Any racism or bullying should be dealt with in the strongest possible way by the police and legal system. Hopefully some of it is being exaggerated by some of those who wanted a Remain vote. Have suffered this type of thing over here with windows smashed and cars damaged etc and its horrible. I used to go to work with butterflies in my stomach most days as well because of intimidation from the scum. But most people are not like that.

People have campaigned to "make britain great". Can someone campaign to unite this kingdom? I can't see it.
Britain would be much stronger if someone could unite the four countries unfortunately some of the nationalist parties seen hell bent on breaking it up. The sooner their followers realise that it is solely designed to weaken Britain and not strengthen its constituent parts the better. Maybe they do realise that, I don't know.

I think there is more than a grain of truth in what you say. The problem I have is I don't see a way of sorting it out.

Again, indulging myself in hypotheticals for a bit, so bear with me.

Imagine there is a snap election called as soon as a Conservative leader is in number ten. Quite possible. However, this scenario applies even in 2020 I guess, although all sorts of other factors could muddy the waters in four years.

If all the members of the PLP put themselves back up for re-election at the hustings what does the core labour support that wanted Corbyn as leader do? Will an alternate labour candidate appeal? Will there be a new party formed that appeals to the core labour needs? Could having two red candidates on every ballot paper further cannibalise the vote and ensure a Conservative landslide? Would the core support dare risk that as it would be politically hideous for them?

Who knows? It is a complete mess.

Yep, mess is the right word and it seems the Labour party's schoolboys have not learnt from previous in fighting that the damage is only caused to the Party...They need to take a long, hard look at themselves and decide if they want to represent the members who elect them or their own agendas

The BBC are reporting that Corbyn retains the backing of the four major Trade Unions (Unite, Unison, GMB, CWU) following a meeting earlier today.

That's a serious kick in the teeth to the PLP

The fact that Scotland voted so differently in the referendum means a break-up between Scotland and the rest seems more likely than not for me. Less so in Northern Ireland. What do you break up to? Sinn Fein are obviously rattling the United Ireland sabre but that is anathema to all the Unionist parties so I can't see that happening. Wales has never really been that keen on independence at all - devolution seems to suit them quite well.

But I can't see a United four country Union lasting much longer.
