Jeremy Corbyn

Governments, both Labour and Conservative, have said they would bring down the number of immigrants entering Britain. They have both failed, and if immigration was not out of control then why would Governments want to reduce it.

Simply because wanting to bring numbers down does not equal "Out of Control" does it?

So why would they want to reduce immigration?

Because it's a vote winner ! HA !!!!!!!

Although there is nothing they can do to prevent somebody from the EU living and working in the UK or elsewhere in the EU if they can find a job - they have no control over that.

What about all the immigrants who come over here just to take advantage of our free healthcare and benefits system. We have been an easy touch for too long.

What numbers are they at? Not including EU immmigrants as I can go to Spain or wherever else in the EU and get treated for free.

My F-i-L benefits massively from that as he can take holidays in the EU and still get his 3 times a week life saving treatment without paying for it.

So why would they want to reduce immigration?

Simply because we are an island and there is a limit on available space. With death rates among the elder reducing and infant mortality being lower than ever then the population is growing.

And how many of those healthcare and benefit tourists are really out there? I wonder.

You can't get free healthcare or benefits if you are an immigrant from outside the EU.

Don't know how long it is now, but I think its a minimum of 6months. Plus if you come on a tourist visa you need to have health insurance.

The number of people who can legally afford to come here would not cite health as the reason. If you are coming here illegally you are illegal, if you come legally generally it's to work and earn or for family reasons.

Within this total, ‘health tourism’, where people come to the United Kingdom with the express intent of using health services to which they were not entitled, was estimated to cost between £60 million and £80 million per year. This compares to the annual NHS budget of £113 billion.

So 0.06% of the NHS budget. Or, put another way, a pound per person in the UK per year. Or, put yet another way, fuck all.

To put things in context, Frank. If net migration continues at its current level of 333k, that's the equivalent of the population of Cardiff being added every year, with all its social and demographic problems. Add to that the natural internal population growth of the UK and this figure rises to at least 500k.

Agreed. Yet those in denial can see no problem with the country being flooded with immigrants.

It's hardly flooded. Language like that doesn't really help things - it just encourages discrimination against people who speak or look different to your view of the standard Brit.

I don't think he does - he's mentioning numbers, not racial characteristics. What part of his post do you think mentions language or looks?

I was pointing out that the language used 'flooded' is hardly helpful. We clearly not 'flooded' in the way flooded should be used - I.e. completely surrounded.

When you use language like that it encourages people to discriminate against obvious immigrants - those who look or speak differently.

3M Net Migration since 1997.

Public spending has doubled in that time yet the NHS is underfunded, schools are overcrowded and our welfare commitments have gone through the roof.

Public debt in 1997 £350M and in 2016 it is £1.64 Trillion.

The economy has since flatlined and has shown no sign of any significant growth.

While it is wrong to blame economic mismanagement on immigrants I cannot see how this country is going to get out of the mess it is in and if you're expecting immigration to continue on current levels you have a massive problem.
