Jeremy Corbyn

I can only echo that, Daniel-san. We have had some very healthy debate over the years. Just because you come from opposite sides, there is nothing to stop reasoned discussion about the issues and seeing where the discussions lead. The juvenile stuff isn't debate. It isn't even soundbite. It is crass, and should be avoided by our press.

Ten years though, man. We're getting old. Maybe in another 20 we'll call a truce.

I agree with most of what you say there Dan - but why is it when he's called jihadi Jez, it's pathetic, juvenile stuff, but when there's a thread about dishface, it's comedy genius, to be enjoyed across multiple pages?

Slight difference in taste though isn't there?

Well, he has a face like a dish. What's not to love.

Seriously though, that's a pretty childish dig at his physical appearance, and I do like my childish digs. But ultimately it doesn't mean anything, unless he were to ban dishes from Britain tomorrow. "Jihadi Jez" has some pretty obvious connotations, it's not just because he has a beard.

Both are still just childish digs though aren't they - no one thinks jezza is a jihadi, though I guess his palling up with terrorists helps the association along.

I agree with the whole 'wish the press would grow up a bit' thing though, it should be beneath supposedly quality news.

People don't go on Sky News and call him a dishfaced cunt is the difference, I suppose. Though they have my number.

Yet no mention when dishface palls up with China and Saudi Arabia?

My opinion is that Corbyn was interviewed on radio 4 today programme shortly after being elected leader. When asked about the privy council, he said that he had not given it much thought, and when he was informed he would have to kiss the queens hand, he said he did not realise that. Frankly I do not believe that. His advisors would have told him what the procedure was, and a politician of his experience would almost certainly have known that. He was being deliberately awkward. When other people have been elected as leader of the opposition, there has never been an issue. Corbyn himself created that issue. Yes Cameron took three months to join the privy council, but the queen knew in advance that he would not be able to attend. Corbyn though just said he had a prior engagement, something he made no mention of before the privy council met. This was just Corbyn yet again trying to act like a rebel, when in fact as the leader of her majesty's opposition he should have been acting like a statesman.
So you justify your point by simply not believing him.

Mr Corbyn has announced that anti-nuclear campaigner, Mr Livingstone, would lead Labour's defence review alongside the shadow defence secretary Maria Eagle, but did not even telling her.

The appointment triggered anger from Labour MPs, already at odds with Mr Corbyn over his recent stance on the police shoot-to-kill policy and the drone strike against Mohammed Emwazi, known as Jihadi John.

The Labour leader also drew fire for his refusal to criticise the Stop the War organisation after it blamed the Paris attacks on Western intervention in the Middle East.

Mr Jones told Politics Home Mr Livingstone's appointment would "damage our credibility" and added: "I'm not sure Ken knows anything about defence."

Did you see his statement on that one yesterday Frank? One of the few stories he has felt he has had to clarify his view."Any kind of shoot-to-kill policy" posed "clear dangers to us all" and said terrorism should not be used to undermine freedom and legal protection but of course I support the use of whatever proportionate and strictly necessary force is required to save life in response to attacks of the kind we saw in Paris."

During the debate in the commons, many of Corbyns front bench team left their seat. They had squirmed in embarrassment for long enough. What does Corbyn expect the security forces to do if the encounter an armed terrorist? Politely ask him to put his gun down.

I seem to remember an innocent Brazillian lad was late for a tube train after the 7/7 attacks and was gunned down. Maybe MrCorbyn wants to avoid another innocent death while accepting than the Police have a very difficult job to do and he would like them to be sure before opening fire. (Or as sure as they can be)

he expects them to shoot to kill. Pretty clear isn't it

oh and on Ken..his comments are not called for and he has rightly been called out on it. I haven't seen if he has apologised yet or not. Be interesting to see if he remains in the job. As for the job he was given, I actually like the idea of 2 people working on the review, when one is anti and one pro.

I did like a comment I saw yesterday where someone said maybe we should use the money spent on Trident for Schools, Health etc and then have a "Trident in Need" fundraiser and see how many people give a crap about it.

Eventually Livingstone apologised.

But what about many of Corbyns front bench team walking out on him during the debate?

What about Labour MP's lining up to speak and denounce Corbyns comments?

He has very few allies in the House of Commons, and that for a newly elected leader must be very worrying for the Labour Party.

Isn't that roughly what happens (depending on the circumstances)? Armed officers should challenge and seek a peaceful resolution first. Failure to comply may result with swift retribution.

You are supposed to warn before deadly force.

It isn't all "do ya feel lucky punk"

Very disappointed in Ken Livingstone, I thought he was better than that.
