January Transfer Window, 25/26 Season

The problem is if they stay the silver will get more tarnished and become worth less by the summer. Sadly it makes sense to try and sell in January.
Yeah unfortunately you're right, I just feel like we will be on a constant downward spiral for some years now. Too pessimistic?

No. Very realistic. It’s going to take a lot to turn things round and we have an owner who doesn’t seem to care and a manager who failed to turn around a relegated team last season. What could possibly go wrong?!

It probably does make sense to sell Gomes now so we can hit the summer window nice and early and not leave everything until the last minutes

bah ha ha ha ha ha ha

Apparently he’s open to moving to Utd and £44 million gets him

We're going to need players who are actually going to be of use to us in the Championship next season. If that means selling anyone with any value in January then fuck it, we're past saving now anyway.

"United will have to pay around 44m"

Fuck 'em, we'll knock 'em down to 32m.

No. I think we'll be playing our football in League 2 before the decade is out.

Christ.

Its like watching people dragging one another down in quicksand.

Im pretty down hearted atm but Im not at that stage yet. I suppose Im hoping 🤞Fosun lose interest and unload us to someone with a bit of ambition before we go down that far.

Can we get Doyle back from his loan move? Embed him into the team for a few months so he can lead us in the Champ...

I don’t think we’ll go down to League 2, but flirting with League One is pretty likely. You can hear serious journalist talking in serious voice on the E&S podcast about how Edwards is likely to build a team around Matt Doherty. Whereas I’m not quite 100% in agreement that this is a, uhm, ‘good thing’ because Matt Doherty is “brilliant… leader… fantastic… character”, I do think thats a likely outcome. And a team built around Doherty is, without being unduly negative about him, quite evidently a League One team.

If you think I take a negative view, I’d protest by pointing out that when we got rid of him to Spurs, I wasn’t predicting we’d be building a team around him in 2026. Isn’t that… incredible.

I think that's a given for me. He will be the sort of player needed so Fosun haven't got to fork out another £10 million in the summer.

I can see them selling Doyle regardless and getting a cheaper alternative. Is there a trigger or clause with the loan?

Wasn't his biggest fan with us but he was always decent at that level when I saw him for Sheffield Utd.

We'd have to bring back Joe Hodge to get a cheaper alternative. Doubt anyone is paying what we want for Doyle.

Doyle is weak and slow, he’s not going to be a player who will spearhead a promotion push from the Championship, for us or anyone else.
