January Transfer Window, 25/26 Season

Palace are quite good, so no shame in not getting in their side. Couldnt be any worse than what were putting out though.

He surely knew he wasnt going to go there as a starter also?

Maybe not worse, but probably just as unsuitable/ineffective. To think I once believed in The List.

What a fucking balls-up giving the keys to the castle to Vitor and his undead mate was

A side note but worth considering that Palace have lost Zaha, Olise and Eze in recent years and are still a very good team.

That's having proper recruitment rather than our Better Call Jorge strategy.

Exactly. Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford all great examples of this too.

Palace will lose Guehi and Wharton too shortly - they’ll still finish top ten though.

We spunked a load on a player in the summer off the back of tournament football and he has proved to be utter shite... it's a NO from me...

Let’s not get carried away by Palace’s current solid mid table positioning. Palace have had three top ten finishes in their 13 years in the PL. All three of those they finished 10th. They’re exactly the kind of team Fosun seemingly were trying emulate - rarely in danger and even less likely to challenge for a top 6 finish. Like all such clubs a bad managerial appointment (or three!) could see them flirt with relegation again, but their vastly superior recruitment probably won’t see them or any of the three Bs implode as spectacularly as we have.

Palace's best signing has been their manager (plus keeping him this summer)

Massive upgrade at keeper even with the people who weren't sure on Henderson. Johnstone was a big part of them being where they were, it was part of why I was so annoyed we we linked with him even before the price was confirmed.

Bought a keeper to actively improve a huge weakness, not because they were cost cutting and the players agent was someone's mate.

I assume that Palace (and Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton) have an actual sporting department with a sporting director / DoF in it so that transfer policy and strategy can remain consistent, irrespective of changes in coaching staff. It's outrageous that we've never truly had a structure like this under Fosun (Scott Sellars and Matt Hobbs doing what footballing guru Jeff Shi tells them to do doesn't count). The amount of money we could have saved if Jeff simply employed someone qualified to do the job - including saying "no" to Jeff - is huge.

We sort of got it right under Nuno because the relationship with Mendes worked when Nuno could veto awful signings. But that's more out of luck than any real strategy. I accept Teti was appointed with the aim of developing something, but he was so close to Vitor that he was always going to go the moment Vitor did, somewhat undermining the consistency that having a DoF is meant to bring.

Wolves are reportedly targeting Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips and Everton’s Dwight McNeil for the January transfer window, exploring both loan and permanent deals. The club are said to be prioritising Premier League experience to help them avoid relegation.

McNeil is at least recognisably a winger (albeit a one dimensional one), we don't actually have any

Phillips can do one, never liked him, not even what we need either
