He's somehow on loan at Monaco. Makes no sense, genuinely one of the worst players I have ever seen relative to level.

Newcastle under Ashley's ownership had a similarly awful spell of recruitment which sent them down.

I hate to pile on the guy, but I'm not even sure it's relative. He's slow, rash, and he just doesn't read the game well. I can't think of a level he would translate to. A boxing ring, maybe.

If he did win it then it would have been as sweeper in 96/97, but I'm not sure he did (it wasn't a public vote until 99/00)

If he did win it that year then it would have been another of our stupid awards, we have quite the catalogue of them (not quite as bad as Stearman over Sako, Mark fucking Rankine or Camara over Rae)

Hasn't a long time servant of the club won it playing at left back?
