January 2022 Transfer Thread

Well done, in before the edit. Treat yourself to an extra biscuit with your cup of tea
I also quoted your post so your schoolboy error is there for all the world to see. Thank me later... 😛

I’m sure I saw DvB play as an 8 at Ajax in a Youri Tielemans style. I know he’s played as a Fernandes type 10.

He seems versatile to me and would fit a 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 with Neves or Sanches but not Joao as I don’t think either DvB or Joao are that strong defensively.

Ideally if we got both DvB and Sanches we shift to 4-3-3 and play with Neves sat behind DvB and Joao/ Sanches.

Not a chance we get him in January.

Bad business decision to not pay the money anyway, but to outrightly lie about the length of his injury does not paint Shi/the club in a good light.
Sad times.

Just another one to file in the “what actually is Fosuns plan” chapter.
With regard to the Sanches injury debacle, it is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility that either he or his club didn't really want the move to go through so lied about the severity of the injury and the amount of time he'd be out.
I’d imagine this could all have been sorted before hand “I don’t want to go/he’s not for sale” means the deal would have been a non starter.

His injury was in the public domain. You don’t need to be an orthopaedic consultant to have an idea when he would have been back without even assessing the bloke. As above, somethings not right.

Given the amount of injuries Sanches has had I'd at least want some assurances that he's not going to break down again.

If we're spending a significant chunk of our budget we need to ensure its not being spent on a crock

I would have thought the decision not to go for Sanches was more to do with his injury history than any lying/incompetence conspiracy.

They are record as saying it was for injury reasons. There is no conspiracy.

The motive for saying that is the debatable element.

Well he was injured, he came back earlier than expected didn't he? Maybe the motive was nervousness given his history?

If a six month loan is a significant chunk of our budget, then there's a big problem.

He came back exactly when his club said he would. It was our alleged additional evaluation which tagged another couple of months on that which has proven to be rubbish. It's that which is at question. Did it really happen, in which case someone was incompetent or was it a made up for alternative reasons? When you are caught so obviously telling lies on things like FFP then I don't believe anything they tell us.

No. He came back right on time. He had knee op (menisectomy) 2 weeks before the deadline. He was expected to be out a further 4 weeks. We only 3 games in that period before the next international break. He came back as expected

I wonder if him and Botman were Shi doing the old Moxey trick of pretty publicly chasing players with no intention of paying enough, but when the bid was accepted they needed to find another excuse.

It's mad that it's come to that, but the only possible explanation for not spending money to capitalise on being in 7th is that they figured that it's not actually worth doing.

Why would they lie about something they would obviously be found out for, unless they just don't give two figs.

I mean its not as if they've got previous for this is it?

FFP was proven to be rubbish. So yeah, they have previous.

Why?

Why would Sanches or the club just not reject the bid?

Because he's only interested in managing the message in the moment and history would say enough people buy it to justify it

Unfortunately I think this is probably where I am now as well. The last couple of years have been more than a bit disappointing in how the club is being run, in a number of ways. It also coincides with Jeff assembling his handpicked team to run things.

Admittedly, there should always be some skepticism applied to most things a club says as ultimately to survive they need people to give them money, much like any other business, but there is obviously an emotional pull that inherently grants them some goodwill that a normal company would not have.

I'm seeing a lot less "be grateful for what they have done, we were in League 1 not so long ago, etc" comments around now as compared to even a year ago. They've done a lot to elevate the club, obviously, but from a position of relative strength where we had the chance to push and attack the goals they themselves publicly stated they had they have let things stagnate to the point where those goals start to look delusional, rather than just ambitious.

Indeed, perhaps the sarcasm was too subtle. I never believed that an investment firm was looking to sink endless capital into the pursuit of football glory.

It's an exercise in rigging the market on an investment, we have an inside track through our agents connections and we can get information on assets available on the cheap where we can mature them for maximum returns.

Footballs about money at the end of the day no matter how much we try to kid ourselves
