January 2022 Transfer Thread

Different intensity in Portugal to England though.

On another note, looks like the AFCON is going to be cancelled due to organisational issues in Cameroon, whatever that means.

Jeff knew all along, the genius!

I meant in areas of the pitch. Not winning an aerial battle on an attacking corner is different to not winning an aerial battle in our defensive 3rd
Going to be many more of the latter than the former though to help eradicate any skewing of the figures.

It would suck to see any regional tournament cancelled.

Will Cote d'Ivoire still call Boly up with the amount he's played? I know most of the Ivorian defenders aren't as good as he is but national teams make weird decisions all the time and there are Ivorian CBs out there in top leagues who are playing.

I’m sorry Alan. They have delayed it to now drop it back into the European season. That’s unfortunate, but if they still have issues I want it fired into the sun.

Wolves have reportedly held conversations with Manchester United regarding a possible loan move for Donny Van de Beek.

The midfielder is set to sign for a new agent but it’s understood that Wolves and Everton have enquired about the 24 year old. [source: Mail]
Probably absolutely nothing in it, but still.

I’m still confused by what VDB is? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not turning him down, we’re currently playing Donck FFS.

But I thought at Ajax he played as a #10 or as an #8 but certainly not as one of the holding players.

So what is he? Always seen him as the Dele Alli type

He is a Dutch Dave Edwards

I think he can play 6, 8 or 10 but prefers the more attacking roles.

Decent with the ball and an eye for a pass. If online data is to be believed 6ft tall too

I think he’s struggled/isn’t trusted in the holding roles at United and that’s why they play Fred/Mctominay/Matic. But everyone Is struggling there as they are set up so badly.

He’s not going to oust Bruno in the #10 so that’s why he hasn’t played.

Think he will be ideal In a 3412/433 but would probably have reservations in a midifield 2 in a back 4

Not a chance we get him in January.

Bad business decision to not pay the money anyway, but to outrightly lie about the length of his injury does not paint Shi/the club in a good light.

You are probably right with the dele comparison. I'd compare him more to a second striker than a creative 10 type and he will get back and do the dirty stuff aswell when required. He would be perfect in a 352.

Donny Van de Beek would be a very good signing if we are going to 352/433. I wouldn't bother if 442 or 343 is the plan though. Also don't see a lot of point if it's not with a view to permanent in what will in all likelihood be a mid table season.

As for Sanches we either used incompetent medical staff or the fans were lied to

I would certainly be happy with 443, always helps having a player more than your opposition...

With regard to the Sanches injury debacle, it is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility that either he or his club didn't really want the move to go through so lied about the severity of the injury and the amount of time he'd be out.
