January 2022 Transfer Thread

Could be Man Utd are ready to sell Lingard for 10m pounds in the january window, I would snap their hands off for that price(well according to The Sun at least)
Who are you playing him instead of?

Newcastle will blast anyone out of the water financially if he's prepared to go there

They will. But they also can’t afford to be paying silly fees and silly wages in the early stages as it will hamper them FFP wise (if it’s still a thing in a few years).

They could easily do an Everton if they're not careful, couldn't believe they've spent half a billion in 5 years when I read that the other day.

They do now, but if they do a City and sign Roque Santa-Cruz MKII for £35m and pay him 150k p/w then they won’t have as much wiggle room in 2 years when they want to kick on

Just goes to show how unfair FFP is. The big clubs can continually out spend everyone else and not get into trouble.

From a football economist, Prof Ferguson.

I can't wait until the next accounts are published and the twitterati will finally see we've been mugged off
If they spend in Jan then they’ll be OK. But if they don’t…

I also expect the figure in that for Wolves to actually be a fair bit higher when the next accounts come in as the huge loss for the promotion season disappears.

Shows the importance of maximising commercial deals. Plus on top of the base figures there you have the maximum season on season increase in wage bill to keep the oiks down.

Then they will piss the championship. A two season delay.
I was on about us, ‘they’ being Shi et al.

Newcastle I wouldn’t back to stay up. Norwich won’t be as shit but will still go down, Burnley won’t go down (we can pray though) and Watford the only other basket case. Villa will have enough unless Gerrard is actually Saunders and Leeds will be fine. Brentford the only team you could see getting sucked in if they pick up injuries and they’ve already lost all their momentum.

Next week Newcastle V Brentford is huge and then they’ve got Norwich and Burnley all at home. Pretty big 3 weeks for them

Think it depends where they are come January. If they are where they are now, they'll attract good enough players to stay up, much further back and they'll struggle.
If I were to pick 3 teams today it would be Watford, Norwich and Brentford

Many apologies. The whole “no wiggle room “ thing was clearly a total lie. There is room so if there is no spend, then it is through reluctance rather than inability. January will tell us a lot.

Next 3 weeks will tell us a lot. They’re away at a rejuvenated Arsenal between their “easy” fixtures. Then in the Christmas period they’ve got Leicester, City, Liverpool, United and Everton. Would 17 points on NYD be classed as cut adrift?
