January 2022 Transfer Thread

The scary thing from that table is that 140 have come in and 144 have left more than any other team in that list. How many of those 140 were oven ready first teamers? 10? The last three years we have spent squat
The table is bollocks, we haven't had those ins and outs as that website classes loans in that figure..

Honestly, have a fucking look at stuff will you?

This is the first team business for the last 6 windows.

19/20
Jordao/Neto £18m
Podence £17m
--------------------------
IN £35m
OUT £31m (Costa + Cavaleiro)

20/21
Silva £35m
Semedo £28m
Hoever £10m
Marcal £2m
---------------------------
IN £75m
OUT £56m (Doherty +Jota)

21/22
Ait-Nouri £10m
Sa £7m
Hwang £14m
Chiquinho £3m
---------------------------
IN £34m
OUT £24m (Patricio + Mir)

----------------------------
Total IN £144m
Total OUT £111m

I haven't counted Traore as he hasn't signed permanently yet.

Hwang shouldn't be in there yet. Marcal was a couple of mill. Also Ioan fees would need accounting notably for Jose

They got 3m for Hause in 19/20 as well

Also Otasowie money is missing from this seasons outs.

I missed Marcal. Hwang has been officially announced permanently so he stays.

I'm not including anyone who hasn't played regularly for the first team. Jordao is only in there because he was part of a double deal.

It does show we have not been in the market for names for a while. Semedo is the closest to a marquee signing in that time. Which proves the bull shit about Ramsay. Doubt we were ever interested

He doesn't get counted until next season as that's when he's signed, much like we count Raul, Jota and Boly when they signed and not when they're on loan.

It's a big difference.

So looking at the "matchday squad", this was our bench against Brentford:

Hoever
Marcal
Jordao - loaned out
Trincao - will be in starting 11
Chiquinho
Ruddy
Giles - being loaned out today
Traore - Sold
Cundle

Raul will be back in the 11 so Fabio will replace Trincao's space on the bench. Saiss will be back, So Toti will drop to the bench in place of Jordao's spot. Donk will be back in his standard role of bench warmer so takes Adama's place. So we're left with one space left to find a player (assuming Giles goes), which will probably be a young name until one of Neto, Jonny or Boly are fit and able to return.

So very soon we'll likely see the following:

Sa
Semedo Kilman Coady Saiss RAN
Moutinho Neves
Trincao Jimenez Podence
Subs: Ruddy, Hoever, Marcal, Toti, Chiquinho, Cundle, Donk, Fabio + 1 more.

If anything, we look light in the wide attacking areas until Neto gets back.

Edit: I totally forgot about Hwang, who will probably take the final spot on the bench and covers a wide area.

Out of curiosity, I ran the transfermarkt scrape again while excluding loans and "transfers within the club" (whatever that means).

So if you don't include Hwang and Traore, we have spent £30 million net over the last 3 seasons?

Sorry to quote myself, but just thinking out loud.

You can understand why Fosun aren't panicking, looking at the first team squad on paper there. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a shiny new midfielder to directly challenge the current two, or maybe even allow us to play 5-3-2 more often, but with the players returning & Bruno seemingly doing a good job in improving what's already here, I can *just about* see the sense in sticking, rather than twisting.

I guess there's always an element of envy when you see other clubs doing business on the final day (Everton have completely overhauled their midfield, for example), but in the cold light of day, we have a settled, improving squad, with some top quality players returning shortly.

Summer window is a big one, mind. Need to nail down 2-3 genuine first team players in that window & no excuses to not make that happen with the lack of spending over the last 1-2 years.

In the hope we make Europe and don't sell Neves I think we're 2 CM's away from a very good side.

Dele Alli and Van de Beek have done about as much in the past two years at this level as Dendoncker. They are a basketcase of a club in the transfer market. Pairing them up together would be some laugh too.

Alot of room for improvement for our young players as well, hopefully.

Fabio, RAN, Kilman, Neves, Toti, Trincao, Hoever, Chiquinho, Cundle, Mosquera and Neto could all improve significantly.

Yep, said in the transfer thread that I personally wouldn't want either of them here.

This does make sense.

We will have to replace Moutinho in the summer. It's probably an easier sell to say to a prospective midfielder "João is off, the position is yours" than it would be now.

Save the money we'd spend now on a 3rd choice mid for a 1st choice mid in the summer. João moves down to the bench and hopefully Cundle has shown he has enough about him.
