January 2020 transfer window

You would think so. 19 not a great deal of 1st team experience

Not to be negative but extremely underwhelming links so far, Im hoping for atleast one player who can challenge the first team

I wanted us to sign Oliveira back in the summer of 2017 as I thought he'd be a good option for us in the Championship. Like most I'm not sure he would be up to it now. Fits into the style of play however. If we do sign Oliveira then I hope he bangs in a hat-trick at Villa Park to get back at Mings for what he did to him last season.

Like say, Neto, who most people wrote off as soon as he signed?

Why are we lukewarm on Podence? Reading some of the Spurs comments and looking at YouTube (I know...) he looks like a genuinely talented alternative who would absolutely make an impact from the bench at the very least. I think he is a substantial upgrade on Costa/Cavalerio

How can a guy who caused Spurs major issues in the Champions League not challenge the 1st team

Given who we've had to put on the bench over the last few games it seems to me that any or all of these signings can only help strengthen the squad. They may not be 1st choice but they are at least depth players are they not?

I would suggest Podence is coming here to play not sit on the bench
Oliveira will be on the bench and unless we pay £50+ million every striker coming will sit on the bench.
Campana we dont know enough about but reports are he is one for the u23's in which case it's unlikely he is one of our main transfer targets and certainly not one of the players Nuno has said we need.

I think they are ideal depth players and based on their attributes Im confident they‘d have an impact from the bench.

This is all we’ve ever needed. Some decent attacking options from the bench but we’ve never had it. Costa and Cav weren’t good enough and neither were MGW and Traore (last season). It’s what we need to take us to the next level.

People have been saying on here for the last 12 months we shouldn’t sign backup and should sign better first team players. But this is impossible given our reluctance/inability to splash out.

Squad players the manager can trust will improve the ones we already have and also keep them fresher so they can be rested with no/limited drop off in quality. It also means the manager might make a change in a close game to grab the win rather than running the current players into the ground because you know the bench won’t help.

Podence to provide competition for the wide areas and Oliveira so that we have an actual back up for Raul is solid business I’d say. Doubt we’ll see much of the latter unless Raul gets injured or as a last throw of the dice when chasing a game.

Tbh, I don't know anything about the players being mentioned, but then I didn't about Raul, Jonny, Jota and Neves....they turned out ok so I'll just trust Nuno knows what he's doing

I think this is exactly the situation. We are unlikely to splash out on automatic 1st choice players, finding those players in the January window is going to be difficult. Our 1st choice team is good. What we lack are options and depth to keep players fresh. These players linked seem to fit that bill to a tee while also being able to push for first team action in the right circumstances.

"But this is impossible given our reluctance/inability to splash out. "

Then why were we first in the queue to sign Thomas Lemar for at least £50m until he decided to stay where he is until the summer?

Jan window prices get loaded & we have a good 1st team - do need a few to be able to bolster that or cover without going into untried U23s.

Seem to be looking at that without shoving silly money out of the door.

The time for any big incomings will be done in the summer.
