January 2020 transfer window

I only really watch Wolves games and the occasional European game if it involves an English side. I only watch Ireland and England games on TV. Unless a player has absolutely ripped it up at a major tournament I am not going to have any exposure to many domestic players until they play Wolves. I haven’t had exposure to foreign players since I stopped playing Football Manager.

I can understand Cutrone to a degree, but I'm very surprised by the number of people unaware of Neves. He was literally one of the biggest prospects in world football when we signed him!

I'd heard of Neves, not Cutrone. But like plenty of other people, I don't play FIFA or whatever Champ Manager is now called, and I haven't watched a European game since they went on to BT

As TSB says above, if you don't play FM or FIFA or watch a shed load of football then you are unlikely to hear about them. UK media doesn't cover overseas football in much depth, apart from the world football phone in which is on at stupid o'clock

You all sound like you work for our recruitment team.

Kev...is that you?

I'd never heard of Neves or Cutrone before we were linked to them. I'd never heard of Jimenez, Dendoncker or Jonny either.

I only knew about Jota as he was amazing on the FM Mobile game I was playing at the time we signed him!

You should have heard of Jimenez, mate. He came on for 5 minutes at left back for Mexico in the world cup and was awful. Remember?

Yeah, I do remember that. Got to love Wolves fans writing him off early!

We were already about to sign him then though. I'd never heard of him before he was linked to us.

He wasn't - he'd gone backwards over the previous 12 months.

The insinuation is clearly that Wolves got players via Mendes who they wouldn’t have been able to sign otherwise, and perhaps that ‘top European clubs’ had been coerced into doing the club, and by extension Gestifute, favours.

Taking the highest profile signing, Ruben Neves, it was widely reported by the Portuguese media the midfielder was available for some time. Porto were desperate for money to meet a financial deadline and that’s how the deal was presented in Portugal, by those with the best understanding of the situation.

It led us to say at the time: ‘It would take some believing to judge the major reason for this deal is anything other than a fudge to help Porto’s finances… Neves must have been given assurances about a Wolves starting place, and it all could turn out fine. There’s every chance Neves will take the Championship by storm, and the circumstances of the deal be soon forgotten, but, equally, it could prove to be a Gestifute push too far.’

This wasn’t presented as Porto doing Wolves a favour, but quite the opposite, Neves hadn’t just stopped progressing but he’d regressed. Of course the agent relationship helped, as happens with many clubs, but it was a gamble.

I live in a world of perpetual confusion over transfer links, I watch Wolves games and the odd European/Prem/International game (although rarely for more than a half) I also follow other sports outside of football, coupled with this I have a terrible memory of names.

I generally don't feel anything for the players who we are linked too until it looks like we are actually signing someone, even then I'm scoobied if I could tell you they were any good!

I'd never heard of Neves but was excited based on his pedigree and the fact we were in the Championship, and he was definitely better than Joe Mason.

I know you all want to hear it really........ Eggestein is a beast on Fifa. 1 less stamina than Kante ;)

Timmy II has popped the Lemar to Wolves bubble. Not happening, move on to the next bullshit rumour

and Joey E&S dives in and wrecks the Eggy rumours as well

Just on Lemar and Eggestein, hearing they're not on Wolves' radar as things stand.

Ah well, pretty good window all the same. 16 year old and a 17 year old signed...

I'm very excited for another two and a half weeks of the insiders telling us who we aren't looking at signing.

Can’t remember the last internet rumour that actually had any truth behind it. 17 days left, I really don’t think we’ll get anyone in tbh, we’re too worried about overpaying to land anyone big in January.
