January 2020 transfer window

Not a huge fan of the idea of Jota having to play through the middle for any extensive amount of time if Raul did happen to get injured - but I reckon early signs for Campana are positive.

If Nuno is happy with the squad then that’s good enough for me.

A front line of Jota, traore, and Podence would be as fluid as Liverpool's and could well be as effective as theirs.

I am not implying that they will be as good, as sane, Firmino, and Salah

Tim Vickery, who is clued up on South American football and players in general said that Campana is nowhere near Premier League level at the moment. Would be surprised if we see him yet.

Think Jota has played very well for us through the middle in a three (albeit in the Championship).

Traore-Jota-Podence/Neto would still be a good three if we needed to rest Raul or if he got injured IMO.

Ryan Bennett is on his way to Leicester for a medical.

I'm not entirely convinced either way about this window.

Nuno said we needed more players - we've actually got less now than before the window.

Jeff said we were "going to have a good window".

All along we've been "after a striker" after we (crazily) let Cutrone go without replacing him.

We currently have one centre forward - I don't know one other club in the Premier League ( or probably in any other league) in that position.

We have signed one player in, probably, the only position we didn't need to strengthen.

In Nuno we (have to) trust.

That's an odd one. I'd have thought if he was moving anywhere it'd be for minutes.

Served us well though - so wish him all the best.

How often were Cutrone/Vallejo on the pitch for us?

Not sure about Campana/Enzo yet as I know nothing about them, but Podence will feature far more than Cutrone did. Vallejo was probably our 6th choice defender, Bennett wasn't even getting a look in so has been allowed to leave, Killman looks like an excellent prospect and now we have Boly back, it's not exactly leaving us paper thin when they weren't even making the matchday squads. On Cutrone/Vallejo - I really wanted them to work out, particularly Cutrone, but they didn't. That's football. But it's not the case that our squad has been severely depleted by losing them.

Yeah, we probably could have done with another forward but it's far from easy bringing someone in of sufficient quality who will be happy playing understudy to Jimenez.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Sanderson bumped up to the 1st team to take over the spot Benno had. Guess Donks form at RCB and Boly showing he can play there, Saiss doing a sterling job on the left and Max showing he is a good back up all but ended his time here.. Still a surprise Benno is going to the top 3 of the Prem though

Bennet is moving out to Leicester.

Surprising, tbh. We have looked a bit shabby at the back and have been playing with two players who are not centre backs at all. Weird move.

Still think we need a bench option for striker. If Raul gets an injury we dun goof.

And as expected, the reaction to Bennett's potential move is somewhat mixed :icon_lol:

Seriously, what is the issue here? He's behind Coady, Boly, Saiss, Dendoncker, Kilman - we're only ever going to play 3 of these. He's not been making the matchday squads and if we did suffer an injury or 2, why not give the likes of Dion Sanderson a place on the bench rather than Bennett?

Between the news that Nuno’s happy with the squad and that Campana’s training with the first team, I imagine that Nuno sees something there that he likes.

Keep seeing this in various places.

Donk played at RCB in Belgium and Saiss is an international Centre Back. These aren't players stepping into roles they don't know.

We will see this weekend. If he is on the bench a OT, he has impressed the boss.

It's one of those where, I can't see any future for him at Wolves but I could see him being half significant at Leicester for 18 months. I mean, Jonny Evans is still getting games for them.

Wasn't Saiss mainly a defensive midfielder? At least I have that image of him but might be mistaken.

Donk is clearly a liability at the back though. He keeps missing spectacularly and we lose his ability in the midfield. He is a much better midfielder than defender, imho.
