I don't want to sell him. Its just a fact that if that sort of money is being offered he would go. Why? Because at that money he is going to be off to a champions league club with a chance of winning trophies which we , at present are not. Yes we are close but don't forget that our owners are astute financial managers and the huge profit 80m for Adama would bring would certainly be attractive. At present I think I am realistic in that if silly money is offered for big stars then it may well be accepted. Champions Leicester couldn't keep Kante when Chelsea came a knocking so 7th Place Wolves may be in a similar boat should a big gun come for Adama. Its a fact of the modern game. We are not a member of the big six.

It's not about profit it's about value. Would we value £80m more in the bank compared to Adama being in our starting XI?

Personally I think the latter is more valuable, obviously if we get a ridiculous offer and Adama wants to go then there won't be much we can do.

Palace have hung onto Zaha for ages so there is previous for clubs hanging onto their star players whilst the big boys are interested.

I think you’ve hit the nail firmly on the head there, Cyber. Unfortunately, I think you’ve hit the wrong nail. It is precisely because Fosun are ‘astute financial managers’ that they won’t sell Adama. Fair enough if he knocks on Nuno’s door and says, “I want to go to Real Madrid.” But otherwise they’ll do all they can to keep him.
They want to build a global brand with Wolves, and one of the key ways to do that is to have a global star in your team. And not even Neves or Jimenez has the potential to be a global star in the way Adama does. If Wolves go to the US this year you’ll see Adama ‘trying out’ as a running back – there’s already been a story about him in the New York Times. In publicity terms his ‘back story’ – fantastic potential, written off, finally finds the right manager – is fantastic.
As for thoughts of selling him for £50m. Bloody hell, Ben Chilwell will go for £50m…

It's also much easier to replace a Neves or a Jimenez than it is to replace an Adama Traore. The bloke is a freak of nature and will only get better.

Currently I think selling Adama would be foolish. The money we could get for him pales into insignificance compared to the value he brings to the team. At a a guess I'd say most of our goals this season have come from either set pieces or attacks in which Adama has been heavily involved. Take him out of the equation and our attacking threat would seem to be hugely diminished. We really aren't in a strong enough position as a squad to lose our most threatening attacking player.

The original question was hypothetical and on the basis that the fee would be re-invested in the team. Would a 40m right sided centre back and 40m right wing back improve the team using Jota/Neto/Podence in the right forward role?

Agree with all of that. I do think we'll get a few bids in the summer though, it'll have to be £80m+ to test our resolve I would say

And I think that the position we are in now shows how us challenging and qualifying for europe needs to be high on the agenda, hence the back step for a cup like the carabao. If we want to keep this squad together then they need to feel they are competing with the best. I really want additions not people to leave but Nuno has shown when your times up its up i.e Cutrone, Costa and Cav. I think that if we do miss out this year on europe then our resolve will be severely teted to hold onto Jimenez Traore and Neves.

So here is hoping that Villa fuck it up and we finish top 6 or win the europa league (however unlikely)

Really? Do you think so?

I think completely the opposite.

Jimenez is the best number nine we have had since Bully - the complete striker. We have been crying out for that player for 20 years.

Neves is something, when he signed, that we all dreamed about. Young, champions league pedigree and a 20 year old international playing with Ronaldo.

These two have been totally instrumental in our success.

Traore has been good this season. Largely, he was rubbish last year.

Plenty to come from him but nowhere near as pivotal to us as others - despite, probably, his price tag.

Opinions eh?

There are better players that can do what Neves and Jimenez can do, good as they are.

No one else can do what Traore does.

Who, better than Raul, would join us??

Traore is quick, yep, but irreplaceable? He is fairly one-dimensional "run fast and out pace the full back, pass the ball. Plenty of players can do that.

Link up play the way that Raul does is not that easy to replace imo

The main difference specifically with Jimenez is that replacing him is a lot easier than bringing in cover for him. With our formation there is one centre forward spot. Jimenez absolutely has that spot, so we aren’t that appealing a destination for centre forwards. It’s the same problem as Spurs have with Harry Kane. Therefore, if the spot was vacated there would be a host of forwards of similar standard who would be interested in a role at Wolves. To get BETTER than Raul, we would need Champions League football, for sure.

I don't think you'd find it easy to get a similar standard of striker to Raul, he's one of the best strikers at that role in Europe on current form and he's pretty invaluable to how we play.

I'm not at all saying Jimenez would be easy to upgrade, by any means, but with enough cash it could be done.

There is no amount of cash you could throw around to upgrade Traore, though. It's not even just his pace (although that's remarkable enough)- it's his strength, his balance, his ability to draw players. I cannot think of a player that offers what he does when he's on his day.

Traore is by no means the perfect player, but doing what he does there is no one better (or even that similar). Our style and formation have changed to accommodate him, if he left then I think we probably change our style than replace him with an inferior version.

Can they? Name them.

What? You want me to list wide forwards who can run with the ball and cross/pass it?

I'll compile my list while you do a list of realistic targets who are forwards who would sign for us and are better than Raul

You can't really think that there are an abundance of players who bring Adama's skill set to the table surely? He's a complete one off.

Exactly.

I'm not disputing that Raul is bloody ace too, but Adama is a freak, look at those comparative "take on" stats. No winger beats their man and gets a cross in as regularly as AT.
