January 2020 transfer window

Reports in Greece claim that Wolves' pursuit for Daniel Podence is collapsing.
Reason being that Olympiacos aren't satisfied with Wolves' offer and want to keep him until the end of the season.
However, an improved bid is still possible and negotiations are not yet over

Daniel Podence's absence during Sunday's goalless derby against AEK Athens was very evident.
Podence is essential when it comes to unlocking opposing defences and Olympiacos can't afford to lose the league for the third season in a row.

Even if Daniel Podence doesn't move to Wolves this month, then I am very confident the deal would happen in the summer.
Nevertheless, Wolves are offering a lot of money and a lot can change in the next few days.
Konstantinos Lianos on Twitter, who seems to be well informed.

Not quite sure what to make of it all, if I'm honest. I doubt Spiers would have tweeted out what he did without being pretty confident the deal was going to happen, but everything coming out of their side seems to indicate the deal has collapsed. I guess time will tell as none of us truly know what's happening.

What I will say is, IF it's collapsed, Shi & co better have a suitable back up already lined up and ready to start with negotiations. Nuno has been adamant that we need players (we all know we need players) and currently, nothing has happened. We cannot afford to be scraping around on the last day or two of this transfer window attempting to get bodies in.

looks to me like a classic Greek touch of creating last minute problems to get the fee increased. The fact he didn't play in a very important game yesterday has everyone here (Olympiacos fans predominantely) pretty sure he's off to Wolves.

Too early to say for certain, of course, but there's a repeated pattern in the Fosun era of the club spending weeks chasing a signing before it all collapsing just before the window shuts, leaving us short (Locadia, Zinchenko, Abraham, allegedly Dias). It's a worrying trend, and I hope the same's not happening here.

Locadias club bumped the price up last minute and Wolves told them to get fucked didn't they?

Entirely different to Zinchenko where everything was agreed but he had the bottle to say he wanted to stay and compete for his place. Ditto Abraham, as has been discussed on here I think Abraham had the "I won't be first choice" epiphany.

There's not a lot we can do to mitigate against players changing tracks.

Oh yeah, the context is different for each (it'd be hard to argue that Zinchenko and Abraham didn't end up making the right decision for their careers), but it's an uncomfortable pattern for me.

The fact that Nuno insists on such a small squad makes the problem of these last minute hitches more evident. Wolves are in a very good position but their depth of squad as we all know it’s not there. It’s a difficult balance between being held to ransom and getting the right player for the right price. But we have been caught out in the last two windows by last minute rejections. I agree with BG it is a worrying trend

Now Jota is back I am not too concerned about Podence either way as we have Adama, Neto and Jota to compete for those positions again, not seen Podence apart from the game against Spurs but is he really the type of player that's going to kick us on to that next level? Not bothered about Oliviera at all.

We have only really signed Neto that's had a positive impact on the first 11 for around 18 months and that's a trend that can't continue but these players mentioned don't really excite as players that will push us further to the top 6.

Last 2 windows?

No one rejected us at the death last summer did they? The Dias stuff was ended quite early (not taking ITK fuckwits from Twitter as proof it went to the line)
Last January Abraham deal was ended around a week before the window closed
Locadia, talks didn't open up until right before the window, all agreed and his club pulled the plug but we had signed Leo, so it wasn't an issue anyway

We seem to have the mentality of choosing who our targets are and if they fail then its no one rather than someone for the sake of it. That is Nuno's call though. I think our squad size is one area that Jeff Shi disagrees with Nuno on, but Nuno will win that argument every day of the week due to his success.

On our latest deal - who knows what is going on. Read Twitter and you have everything possible from deal done, deal collapsed, Olympiacos want more and right down to the transfer is blocked by FIFA because Sporting Lisbon think Mendes/Olympiacos/Wolves have scammed them...so who the fook knows.

The difference between right now and previous windows is Nuno has made it quite clear we NEED more players and we NEED more depth. He has never done this before. I worry for everyone if Nuno gets pissed off at the clubs failures to secure new signings and decides to do one somewhere else, either in the summer or next season. Nuno holds the key to it all. Football is a funny old game & you never know what's around the corner and I hope the club are doing absolutely everything in their power to secure the players Nuno wants.

I'm happy to sit patiently with the rest of you until the end of the week, to trust the club and see who comes in. But to not admit that there is a *slight* trend in our recent big targets is doing nothing other than sticking your head in the sand.

Yeah I saw that about Sporting - seems like and most likely is complete and utter bs from someone looking to get attention.

It wouldn't surprise if there's a last minute change to try and squeeze us for a few more ££. Which is why I wondered before if this is just something that regularly happens at this level and we're not used to it. It's fine taking a principled stand, and tbh I'd rather they do that, but at some point if this is just business as usual at the level we're trying to deal at we might have to swallow our pride.

Again, this is pure conjecture on my part and I've got nothing to back it up. I have to assume last minute brinkmanship is a thing though, it's just a question of who blinks first (if anyone)

If Lampard hadn't got the Chelsea job it was quite likely Abraham would have joined us.

But Lampard didn't get the Chelsea job for six months after the Abraham deal didn't materialise? Or did Lampard know what was coming and gave him the nod?

That’s my perception too - Greek and Turkish clubs like that kind of thing

I mean in the summer sorry. I’m led to believe we had a deal agreed

January he clearly prioritised getting guaranteed games with Villa like you say!

No overly worried about Podence , we have Neto on fire and Jota back, but we have no cover for Raul now that Paddy is gone.

We had no cover for Raul when Patrick was with us tbh

Tim II says the Podence deal is still on

Head of Communication of Olympiacos, @NikosGavalas, for Daniel Podence and Wolves, on @Sport24Radio: "The difference was between the 2 clubs regarding the terms of Podence's contract. Τhe matter will clear up immediately. Olympiacos is known for tough negotiations".

My God, there's a new player coming in every five minutes...

Foot - Transfers - Dijon - Transfers: Enzo Loiodice loaned to Wolverhampton | The Team

Assume he is a DM looking at his stats? I don't know anything about him!
