January 2017 Transfer Thread

Something smells decidedly odd about that.

Mind you, it involves Fawaz so I shouldn't be at all shocked. Equally I won't be shocked if that McCormack deal collapses when the money is asked for.

If Wednesday now have Fletcher, Hooper, and Rhodes, and I stick in a cheeky 11th hour bid for Joao Lucas.

They have Winnall too as well as Forestieri. Lucas Joao has gone to Blackburn on loan, he's pony anyway.

Winnall will have his £35k a week to keep him happy, but is going to be seeing a lot of the bench. Rhodes is a flat track bully, a decent finisher who creates next to nothing for himself. He was Boro's equivalent to our signing of Leon Clarke in Div 1, an insurance policy which wasn't ever needed.

Did CBJ ever get returned to Man U? Don't recall seeing anything official?

Nope.

Talk is that we had a bid rejected by Cov for Ryan Haynes. No additional LB cover = CBJ can't go.

If we're not going to use him even in the squad seems unfair to keep him. He has been royally fucked over IMHO.

Pretty sure i read that United didn't want him back either, which is definitely harsh if true. He's wasted a year of his development.

We paid a season long loan fee. United wanted him back, but refused to pay the proportion of the fee back to us so we refused to send him back to them. Hopefully now Deslandes is out moan the kid will at least get some U23 action.

I cant below United have refused to repay anything back. It would be pittance to United..

Going from trying to break into the United team to playing 2nd fiddle to Matt Doherty. Poor bloke.

Bit of thread necromancy there but actually rather well timed!

Look at the Helder Costa statement. Thelwell says that a few weeks ago there was no chance when he had originally said so, but Fosun have released the money to the club to allow the purchase to go ahead. Clearly quite a change in perspective and less than 2 months ago Thelwell felt comfortable in going public with a comment that suggested such a change was not on the way. It would suggest he is not quite as near the centre of the circle of advisors as he thinks.

Or Fosun genuinely did change their mind?

That's the point isn't it. They've ignored Thelwell and gone with their own decision. I think Paddy's right, Thelwell has been sidelined as the players bought in were PL's not his.

This can only be a good thing.

Why does it mean they've ignored Thelwell?

If they'd said at the start of the season we're going to spend X this year and Costa's agreed fee was >X then obviously Thelwell would say it was impossible at that time. Fosun could then come back at a later date and say they'll provide the funds to make it happen due to his impact whilst on loan.

You're proving my point Mark. They're telling Thelwell what to do rather than asking his opinion. It is widely believed that Costa had nothing to do with Thelwell so not unreasonable to think that now too.
