Goals.jpgGoals for is not a pretty trend at all, never once beaten xG. Goals against looking better in terms of performance against xGA and the latter returning to a better trend following a general decline in recent years.

Never exceding xG would suggest that the recruitment team has been identifying the wrong type of attacking players. Or at least putting too many of them together at the same time. Hopefully Kalajdzic bucks this trend.

He's a cock and completely rubbish, and not managed anyone in 16 years, but I'd take Hoddle over Lage.

A slightly better version of the same thing.
Man, I like you as a mate and that, but jeez I think you just crossed a line... ;)

I'd imagine it's rare to exceed xG, consistently at least, perhaps a trait reserved purely for the most clinical which would generally be playing above midtable level.

I don't particularly dislike Lage TBH, I just don't think he's got what it takes at this level - nowhere near enough in fact. I would agree with whoever it was who said he'll never get a job at this level again (probably Herr Deutsch). But he's not got the Nuno (or even McCarthy) levels of charisma - there's no connection with the fans.

Even so, no way I'd want the likes of McGhee, Hoddle or Saunders instead of him. Not a chance. But that doesn't mean I think Lage needs to be given more time either - he's had more than enough.

In terms of our squad quality, I don't think we've ever had as talented an XI as we have now if we were at full strength. Sure, you'd make an argument for Jota being on the forward line but other than that, there's really not any other position that I would argue we've regressed in. I'd even have Sa over Rui TBH.

HOWEVER - I don't think we've ever looked this hapless, or this toothless since we've returned to the Premier League. Even under the occasional poor run under Nuno, I never doubted we'd snap out of it and pull a good result and performance out of the bag. I have no such confidence under Lage, even with a better squad.

I seem to remember Leicester doing it quite often in the last couple of seasons when they nearly finished 4th. They were always scoring more goals than they should have. Vardy in particular was way ahead of his xG.

Surely better teams regularly exceed xg and poorer teams regularly fall below, with the league averaging about 1?
Otherwise isn't it just a load of rubbish?

Doesn't work like that. Under performing strikers might still be at 1 but your defence might be over performing at 0.0xga.

Its Ok all - we don't win games in August anyway.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage says his side need to start winning matches ahead of their clash with Southampton: "It is the culture of the club. How many games did Wolves win in August? Do your research and after you tell me….None? The last five years we didn’t win any games in August. Three with Nuno [Espirito Santo] and two with me. In a perfect world we start pre-season with the squad we have now and have time to work.
What is he blathering on about? Every time he opens his mouth he annoys me. Even if we were winning I’d probably still think he’s a knob.

3 times in 6 years according the site I looked at, only by about 0.1 goals per game though on average. Guess that's the sort of influence you get from a top finisher like Vardy, haves you punching a bit above your weight overall but not enough to carry you alone.

Last chance saloon tomorrow, he’s had a very good window, Brighton are currently 4th and I don’t believe for a minute they have a better squad than us ( can’t stand that ‘group’ bollocks )
All down to him now.

I originally thought him an inexperienced and under-qualified chancer. It turns out I was right,

Now I’m just irritated by what he says.

He just talks continuous rubbish and his quality of English seems to be worse now than when he started… it’s almost as if he has to talk to the press, but he’s determined not to tell them anything.

He just gets on my nerves and I want the clown out of my club.

Watching the Sasa behind the scenes video I wouldn’t have a great first impression of the management team.

Tony Roberts our “set piece” coach first introduction was “I saw you in Wales, I do the goalkeepers.” After Sasa thought he was a fan who was just in the stadium for the match.

Whilst Bruno just kept telling him how great the canteen is.

Do enjoy these behind the scenes videos though.

Tony roberts always strikes me as a bloke who wants to fight everyone, just his attitude and demeanour
