It was only January that football pundits gave Lage the manager of the month award but of course they know nothing!
You get me wrong. I'm not saying he's the Messiah, I'm saying he's what we have and now we have a decent squad, partly at least due to his input, we should give him a chance. Or maybe he is just a naughty boy

In January we were excellent against Manchester United, scraped past Southampton and beat a Brentford team who were in a shocking run of form. We also got knocked out of the cup by Norwich.
He's a coach given a squad of players rather than signing them himself although I'm sure his input was asked for. How long shall we give him?

That’s just a he’ll do attitude

Yes, definitely - taking everything into account.

And actually, thinking about it he's the only manager since Ian Greaves (other than Nuno) I'd vaguely consider as having the potential to mesh OK with this set of players and these circumstances.

As much as I loved Mick at the time, his tactics just wouldn't work with these players. The thought of Dave Jones, Colin Lee, McGhee, Turner, Taylor with these players is even more unlikely to bring any success. And the least said about the likes of Hoddle, Zenga, Saunders and Docherty the better.

Note: This isn't an actual wish to get Solbakken back at all - just that actually, he would probably the least terrible option of any non-Nuno Wolves manager from the last 40 years for these players, this league and these circumstances.
I genuinely think Hoddle would outperform Lage. I'm not even being contrary for the sake of it for once.

We'd play the same tepid football that goes nowhere but we wouldn't lose as often, he had a pretty good record when we went behind in terms of rescuing 1 point. We don't do that.

He'd love us passing it endlessly in the middle third and pretending we played well.

He'd be a knob but Lage is a knob.

That is how low the bar is.

are you Solbakken?

He was trading off a massively over-performing defense and goalkeeper, now they have reverted to the mean its obvious that there is nothing else to him
Wolves goals against...

20/21 52 1.37pg
21/22 51 1.34pg
22/23* 4 0.8pg

Where was the beneficial over performance?

I cba to check but add expected goals conceded to that and it might be a differnet picture

Do you have anything actually sensible to suggest I'm wrong?

Which Wolves manager of the last 40 years, excepting Nuno, would you expect to do best with this team, players and circumstances?

As you pointed out the other day, Dave Jones in that embarrassing relegation season outperformed Lage.

You're right, "better than Lage" is a stupidly low bar. But I'm not sure I'd go as far as Hoddle... ;)

Steadily getting worse since promotion.

18/19 1.32pg
19/20 1.34pg
20/21 1.55pg
21/22 1.7pg

Will have to tot up individual games for this season so far.

1.1pg against so far this season, so best performance to date at this point strangely.

I meant more by breaking down last season into 2 parts since we looking at Lage

Far better squad of players but in any case Hoddle potentially far more technically minded. The team Hoddle inherited was dirge and players like Frankowski and Rosa were nowhere near. Alex Ferguson would have had difficulty motivating that lot.

Its Ok all - we don't win games in August anyway.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage says his side need to start winning matches ahead of their clash with Southampton: "It is the culture of the club. How many games did Wolves win in August? Do your research and after you tell me….None? The last five years we didn’t win any games in August. Three with Nuno [Espirito Santo] and two with me. In a perfect world we start pre-season with the squad we have now and have time to work.

The culture of the club is set by your example, my guy.

No facts, no. these are OPINIONS! mine happens to be different to yours!
But your opinion appears to be based on nothing. You've been asked more than once and there isn't anything.

If I said the Shropshire Union Canal was made up of mermaids' tears and that's just my opinion, I don't think anyone would take it seriously.

perhaps you need to re-read my first post and take off your Lage hating glasses

So who would you have who is realistically available?

Doesn't really matter what it is if you can't score, as any goal against you means defeat more often than not.
