If Not Lage, Then Who?

I thinks it's more the case that that if we have a vacancy and it coincides with his availability then it seems inevitable.

Personally, I'd still prefer a wider search which includes managers in jobs who might be interested.
I agree with both of those points, though I wouldn’t be as averse to Lopetegui as others (while hardly an advocate and less a fan). Of course it will be a hard sell to the majority of Wolves fans, accustomed as they are to the fluent attacking and free flowing goals of the last 12 months.

Not saying this means we should lower our sights and ambitions, but how many times in the last 20 years or more have we actually had a team/manager that played 'free-flowing, attacking football'?

Certainly not in the top flight. At times McCarthy, Nuno and Jackett in their promotion seasons spring to mind, not much else?

Winning the Europa league with an unfashionable side. suggests otherwise.
You're right, I based my thoughts on a short term as Spain manager and a pretty unsuccessful and very short stint with Real Madrid. Lost 6 of 14 with Madrid. Not sure why he didn't last long as the national team manger as they didn't lose a game with him in charge, his record was Pl 20 W 14 D 6 L 0. His 1st managerial job wasn't a huge success either: lost 7 of 11 games with Vallecano.

His record is decent but doesn't seem outstanding really.

He lost the Spain job after their FA found out he’d done a deal with Madrid behind their backs.

His Spain team looked very good IMO, they played really nice football and I thought they were going to do really well at the World Cup. Of course we won't ever know how well they would have done but he was perceived well enough in Spain to be the next Real manager.

That season at Real would have been a distaster for almost anyone, they'd just lost Ronaldo and Benzema hadn't yet developed into that leading man. Club had no focal point. They were just as bad under Solari and then Zidane until they spent ~£300m in the following summer.

Top four in all of his seasons at Sevilla and they also won the Europa League.

I think he's a very good coach and his sides are more than capable of playing good football, Sevilla looked excellent against us. I also just don't think there is another top coach who we would consider to be honest, the club is never going to go for someone like Marco Rose.

Sevilla fans letting their feelings about Lopetegui known apparently. On borrowed time after tonight's result and their start o the season you'd imagine.

Tonight's result puts Lopetegui closer to the door

Can’t see a way back for him now, they’ve been rancid in the league too -3 losses and a draw.

OTOH, best CB sold, no decent forward (Hi Rafa), lots of the same players that beat Wolves back in 2020 but pretty turd replacements for the quality that left.

Would he do any better that Bruno? Couldn’t score fewer, surely?

Does he know Uncle Jorge?

If gets annoyed when the board only spend £255m then he ain't settling in with us

It's relative though, he never had an issue at Dortmund where he'd lose his best 2/3 players every year and spend a pittance.

Had a major falling out at Dortmund also (can't remember exactly why mind), seems to be a common theme wherever he goes.
