The amount of old people slipping and sliding around Wolverhampton this morning. I know it’s a different generation but slipping and breaking your hip in your 70s can’t be a positive move.

Apparently breaking your hip is one of the most serious injuries you can incur.

I'm not surprised. My great grandmother lived into her mid nineties. Sadly she slipped and fell in the backyard of her terraced house and broke her hip as a result. She sadly passed soon after the event.

Her grandaughter (my aunty) had a fall on Boxing Day, 1998. She broke her hip and passed before the new year. She was 83 years old.

If you’ve got osteoporosis it’s the hip breaking that causes the fall, not the fall breaking the hip.

My nan was always active. Struggled when she lost my grandad, but went downhill so quickly after she broke her hip - ironically she tripped over a wheelchair!

Yeah my mom fell and broke her hip,moved to a care home,never walked again. Although she did live for a further 3 years.

My mum is 96 and has been confined to her house for a couple of years. She had a fall last February and as a result we've put a bed downstairs for her and she has carers calling in to get her ready, make her meals, do some washing and check on her. However last month she had 3 further falls in a short space of time (all during the early hours). Consequently we now have a carer in place during the night time to keep an eye on her.

No snow at the moment but everything frozen solid.

Set off in -2° and barely broken 0° but great to be out. Much prefer summer and wouldn’t want this cold snap to last too long but there is something about it and I think I’d miss it if we never had it.

When it's 30 degrees, I miss days of 20 degrees. But that's as far as it goes

Ironically posting this from Thailand where exactly that is happening right now and people are complaining about the cold - 26c max, 13c at night (though it hasn't reached that yet)

I walked the 3-4 miles to work this morning. No way was I venturing out on a bike!
