Good people of Britain...........PANIC

Lickey Hills on fire apparently. Large blaze.
Also the possible thunderstorm that was forecast for tomorrow has disappeared.

Just saw this on the E&S website at lunch. I'm guessing more wild fires will pop up as the day goes on..

Unconfirmed, but has been suggested a disposable bbq was the cause.
Imagine being a firefighter, donning all that kit in this heat & going to that fast! It's affecting a big area by all accounts.

Honestly LJ you couldn't have read that properly before hitting send.

I'm fairly sure firefighters are pretty used to working in full gear, in heat. It's kinda what they're trained for.

I've got a walk in fridge at work and I've been doing my finest impression of Boris Johnson all afternoon.

27c indoors at the moment - bedrooms at the front are a bit cooler as curtains closed all day (& ground floor as its a bungalow).

No idea what it is outside as went out at 8am to do what I needed to, but suspect its 35 or 36c.

Just glad that we postponed the bowls matches from Sunday to Tuesday - really wouldn't have fancied playing this evening particularly with an hour journey each way to get there & back.

Flipping kids get home and open and close any window or door they can find. Red hot inside now 😒

Tbh that's as wanky as the 1976 climate change gammon culture war. Let's demonise people in their 80's who will die this week for something their great, great, grandfather's may or may not have done

Touched a nerve? I read it as a bit of humour.

Is that true? Not saying it isn't, just a fact I didn't know - there's a lot of them 😃
I guess so, I mean the ignition point of the driest of dry grass / kindling has to be at least 300 degrees.

Edit. Meteors could also start wildfires I reckon

Not a personal nerve, just it doesn't really serve any purpose in a country that's already full of division and this week's weather will lead to the deaths of elderly people. I don't see that as particularly funny

Volcanoes never cause fires? You can get ignition purely from a build up of heat, mother nature provides plenty of fuel and oxygen to do the rest.
Not in the lickey hills. I take your point that volcanos can cause fires. But I don't agree that fires just 'happen' cause it's hot, things need to reach ignition point before they ignite.

So before Humans the only fires were down to volcanoes, lightning and meteors?

So I've done some reading, and it seems fires can sometimes just start on their own. But I don't understand how the sun alone can take something up to the ignition point of dry wood / grass which is about 300 degrees. Can anyone explain?
