General Wolves News

Might have been Halifax away in the late 80's as that was the coldest I've been. The wettest without doubt was at Blackpool for a night game when it was howling a gale. Absolutely soaked through.
Braga was the wettest by far. Everyone was like a drowned rat before they got into the ground so being under a roof was irrelevant.

Wasn't there but remember watching on tele from the comfort of my couch! :) Poor buggers... can only dream of nights like that again!

The coldest game I went to was at the Shay in the early 80s, Halifax Town vs Hartlepool Utd!

Wigan away FA Cup on a concrete terrace, right behind the goal, probably late 80's also springs to mind
It kicked off IIRC and they had the police horses running through the terraces!

I never went to the old Wigan ground but pretty sure it was just a grass bank for the away end

I think this is the Blackpool game I was referring to. Not quite as cold as Oldham but the wind and rain with only a work shirt on…

Chester was the same, a grass bank with large stones in it. Now a (presumably closed) Homebase

I remember the grass bank at Chester but forget/forgot whether it was their old ground or when they played at Macclesfield

Don't think we've ever played at Macc

Defo Sealand Road in 88/89 (I didn't go, I was 7, did go to the home game when Kendall saved a penalty around New Year)

It was horrendous and I don't think they'd play in such conditions again. We got up there early as I knew the Headlands hotel had a bar and a snooker table. Getting into the car after the bar was fun with the winds and then we decided to go to McDonalds...took three of us to push on the door to get out of there and then when I opened the drivers door, it nearly got swept off its hinges such was the wind strength. Then we toddled off to the match, got absolutely drenched and I hurtled home in just over an hour overtaking a Police car on the way doing around 100mph. Figured there was no way he was going to stop me and get drenched.... and I was right! Today they'd just take a photo and issue a fine.... good times.... and great memories.

PS. My memory tells me we won 1 or 2- 0 with Mutchy getting one, probably in 89. Forget who got the other if there was another goal.

Just found some details.... 28th February 1989 it was and we won 2-0. Attendance: 6,482 idiots. Buggered if I can remember who got the other goal though and I don't have any programmes from that era anymore to look it up. Bet someone here can trace it though. ;)
