General Wolves News

If we'd done nothing he'd have entered the final two years of his deal come the summer, that in itself would set us up for a decision to sell now or watch his value naturally dwindle.

I doubt we were ever getting markedly more than £62.5m for him, as I have said, it puts him on the same recent value as Julian Alvarez and Omar Marmoush, transfers that involved the club who have more financial resource than probably any other club in the world so far less susceptible to market conditions or pressure to sell.

Fair enough, I bow to your superior knowledge.

Personally, come the summer, I think his market value will be considerably more than £62.5m. Especially in the event that clubs might have been bidding against each other. Irrelevant now, we’ll never know.

We gave him the contract because he behaved like an arsehole, not because we wanted to reward him, too. He knew we wouldn’t want to go into a relegation fight with our best player unsettled and him/agent took advantage. I don’t blame him, by the way, just let’s not get it twisted and celebrate his new contract like he’s done us a favour.

Amazing player, one of the best I’ve ever had the privilege of watching, but won’t leave with hero status for me. Not keen on those sort of antics.

What's this wank about holding the club to ransom? His contract was a reward for excellent performances and an opportunity for us to protect his value.

I really don't understand the issue some Wolves fans have with Cunha.
Yeah it's weird.

He might leave in the summer - I'd be very surprised if he didn't - but I certainly won't look back on his time here with any disdain for Cunha at all. He's been responsible for some fantastic moments in an era where fantastic moments have been few and far between.

We have plenty of players worthy of criticism for their overall contribution during their time here but I don't think Cunha is among them.

I will say his destination isn't clear cut.

France: Only PSG can afford him, doubt they want him
Germany: Bayern could afford him but again doubt he's needed there, Leipzig have just spent €50m on Xavi Simons, Dortmund don't spend that much on individuals
Spain: Real Madrid could afford him but no chance he goes there, Atletico have already had him, unless we're happy for them to pay £1 a week then Barcelona is a no-go, forget everyone else
England: Arsenal credited with January interest but don't they need an out-and-out striker? He isn't that. Don't think he's a good fit for Liverpool. Brexit Jim says Man Utd have no money. No room at City who have far greater priorities plus they're probably still stung by giving us what they did for Dickhead Nunes. Spurs aren't in that market, Chelsea could do anything, who knows with them.
Saudi: Does he really want to go there at this stage of his career?

In terms of English clubs Chelsea is about the best fit of those who have the financial ability to sign him. Sterling is shit, and Nkunku is very hit and miss for them.

Man City have just bought Marmoush who plays in that slightly deeper role off Haaland, as well as Doku and Grealish off the left.

Arsenal already have too many No 10s and Gabriel Jesus who plays inside off the left. No idea why they are bidding for him.

Liverpool have Gakpo, Jota and Diaz who all play inside off that left flank or slightly deeper. It's the right side they need to invest in for when Salah leaves.

Newcastle already have Gordon and Barnes.

Villa now have Rashford, Rogers and Asensio and even Bailey behind Watkins.

I doubt Man Utd can afford him nowadays or would be unwilling to spend that much on one player. Same with Spurs who have Son and Maddison any way.

No one mentioning Forest as a possible destination for Cunha?

I wouldn't be in the least surprised if he ended up there.

The 62.5 m, simply means he can't fuck off for less, and he has agreed contractually to that.
It also means if more than one club wants him, then there's a bidding war and we could get a fair bit more.
Don't see a fat lot wrong with that.

I guess if they make the Champions League they might just be able to justify it. But they'd have more than one position to upgrade and spending that amount on one player would limit them severely in improving their entire squad.

Plus would Cunha want to go there. He'll be well advised that they might drop down the league next season.

A lot will depend on if Forest make the Champions League... if they do I could see it happening.
Just won't work from a PSR standpoint and UEFA's regulations are even more limiting. They have far too many players where there's tons of amortisation left. You can only amortise over 5 years now so £62.5m/5 = £12.5m straight on Year One's books. They don't have the headroom, you can't book CL income in advance. They don't have anyone home-grown to sell, Ryan Yates is the only candidate and who wants to pay money for him.

From a PSR point of view they still "owe" over £10m for MGW for instance and we sold him to them ages ago now.

UEFA don't fuck about though, do they. They punished us for getting too good too quickly and they've banned the likes of AC Milan from competition for breaking the rules.

No, it doesn’t mean that.

It means that as soon as we receive a £62.5m bid, we are obliged to sell him.

There is no point bidding more than 62.5 as it doesn't exclude someone else bidding 62.5. we can't say no if someone bids 62.5, so why bid any more?

"Bidding wars" don't happen anyway

Add them to the list along with convoluted swap deals and "pay-as-you-play" contracts (never existed to start with in the sense that people talk about them)

For no reasons that could form a logical argument, I feel convinced he’ll go for £70m to Newcastle as their “now we poach the midtable’s best” PR coup.

He's not a direct replacement but if Isak goes for bazillions, would Newcastle want to splurge on him?
