Lage wants to keep Moutinho. Just get it done, two year deal. Even if he doesn't play much in the final year he'll be worth having around, if we let him go then not only do we lose someone who's still a very good Premier League midfielder and a superb influence, it'll cost us stupid money to replace him.

The interview bits are excellent. The standard unnecessary Spiers tics are there throughout (I wouldn't go down that road on Twitter in his position, not least as he's no good at it, let alone in a subscription level piece of writing) but I suppose you have to price that in.

Obviously there's no editorial control at The Athletic as anyone worth their salt would be taking a big black marker pen through the opening paragraphs and saying "do it properly".
