Yeah I would go with those 5, but saying VP has fallen out with them is moot, I'm not saying there is even a chance under VP.

Anyway, I'm not dying on this hill, I'll just get misrepresented the more I say.

Well teams with 5 good players out of a squad of 25 don't survive, regardless.
Oh they do, and have.

Sheff United came 9th, McCarthy's Wolves came 15th, Dyche's Burnley, Everton at times, there are loads of examples of teams that had a handful of decent players and then 3 or 4 others playing above their ability.

Those sides were organised, committed and knew their roles.

I'm spotting a fatal flaw. Actually 3 fatal flaws.

Well for a start Mick McCarthy's Wolves had a goalkeeper in Marcus Hahnemann who for that season was a perfectly decent PL keeper.

We currently own no-one who is even close, Johnstone is only in because Sa and Bentley are somehow worse.

How do you square that circle over the next dozen games?

The issue with a manager change is we have our most difficult run of fixtures coming up now.

I'd just risk someone else regardless, fire Mosquera into RB for now.

Edit - issue is GK like DW suggests. There is no accounting for those two.

I don't always agree with EP, but if you're looking for glass half-full with what a new manager could build a team around it is the '24/'25 version of Agba/JSL/Andre/Joao with Krejci and maybe Tolu.

But as DW says, the rest is awful and nowhere near standard and it's two months til you're relying on Shi or Vitor's mate to solve that? Yikes.

The very fact that VP himself managed to turn around a ship destined for the rocks last season tells you that someone else could do exactly the same, even with a worse squad, particularly with more time.

But the longer Shi sticks with him, the harder and less likely it gets, and given the contract situation he put himself in, he isn't going to want to admit how stupid that was soon.
Last season was completely different for two key reasons, there were three really poor teams and we had Cunha and RAN. Nobody is turning it round, stop kidding yourself.

The respective runs of fixtures too; VP has had it a lot easier there than this time last year

The rest aren't even average, they're shit. The Bueno brothers play every single game and they are fucking woeful.

It's scandalous.

We haven't even gone back to the Buenos, Hwangs, Johnstones and Hoevers of the squad because they 'used to be shite...' and they've got their act together, we've just actually bought or already own worse players (or players VP thinks are worse) who shamefully can't shift them.

Takes some doing to clear out the deadwood/dross in the summer and replace it with worse crap!!!

I'll caveat that and say Guedes belongs in both groups before DW pounces...

I don't think I agree, I think someone could get a lot more out of this squad than VP is. People say we're worse than Derby etc but this month we've drawn with - and should have beaten - Spurs and Brighton. I don't think there's a massive gulf that nobody can bridge.

I also don't think we should keep VP because "nobody is turning it around" and look at it in the opposite fashion really, in that with VP we are definitely going down. That alone should be reason to change it. I'd rather Liam Rosenier came in and we didn't win a game all season because at least then we have tried.

I’ve no doubt there are plenty of managers who will get more out of the squad and VP should be sacked tonight. There’s a big gap though between getting more from the squad and getting enough to stay up.
