Forest 0 - Wolves 2 a welcome relief from the recent games verdict thread

Still looks like a deflection to me and if there isn't one then we have scored 2 goals thanks to some of the worst keeping i've ever seen.

Formation was 4231 moving to 433 after Saiss came on. We were a lot better than I thought we'd be. We tried to pass the ball and even though very little came off it was nice to see us at least try to do it.
Ikeme - no real saves, but looked solid. Came for crosses and even though the shots he did have were quite weak he didn't spill them
Coady - When it was on the deck one on one he struggled when he had to head diagonal balls he did well.
Doherty - didn't have the challenge that Coady did, solid enough
Stearman/Batth - their kind of game, no number 10 breaking beyond no skill up front just a big lump playing number 39. They always do well in those games and did again.
Price - neat tidy, does what he does
Edwards - he's not a great central midfielder, but he gives you energy and will never give up
Bright - not sure he knew what he was doing half the time, but if he didn't neither did they. I'd like to see him a bit further forward, came very deep at times. Definitely worth a shirt.
Costa, great goal, good outlet, some of his distribution wasn't great, but I can live with that
Cav, cool finish and gives us balance another who's decision making is questionable but again has to play
Dicko - worked hard. See the last month
Saiss - strange sub really we were on top, I didn't feel we needed to try and shore it up, did fine though
Ronan - played on the left, showed some nice touches

I make that five goals in the last eight days (two from Button, Amos on Tuesday and the two today) that we've scored thanks to some frankly ludicrous goalkeeping. I'll take it though.

I'll take it in every game if we have to but realistically we can't keep relying on goalkeepers making mistakes and although Lambert thinks we have improved i still don't think we have. If we get points and performances in the next 3 games then i'll start giving believing him.

Played really well today. Everyone had a decent game at least. Good atmosphere as well.

Youhave to have shots on target to score goals if the goalkeeper can't save them that's his problem.

Ratings:

Ikeme - Had a good game. Only one real save to make which was straight at him. Claimed plenty of crosses though which was good to see - 7

Coady - Struggled with no help from Costa and got beaten a couple of times. Less of an issue in the 2nd half when they stopped targeting him so much but kept it safe and headed a lot of diagonal balls away - 6

Doherty - Had a decent game. Got forward well too until we scored then he sat back more. Still was caught out of position upfield at the start of the 2nd half a couple of times though when they were pressing for an equaliser. Saw the game out well though. - 7

Stears/Batth - Won almost everything in the air apart from a headed chance in the first half. Shepherded the ball out or to the keeper well when they tried to play through the middle in the 2nd half. Not troubled after our second. - 7

Costa - Flitted in and out of the game but really came to life when Cav moved into the middle and linked up with him for the goal. Brilliant finish from such a tight angle. Rightly removed once we were 2-0 up. - 8

Price - Lovely performance from him today. Good passing, good pressing and helping his defence out, especially at RB in the first half. - 8 MOTM

Edwards - Played deeper and very much his go to workhorse performance. Closed them down well though which led to the second goal, though having seen it again it does look a foul to me. Still a decent team performance though - 7

Cavaleiro - Fairly subdued at first but his best spell as I mentioned was behind the striker for 10 mins before half time. Very impressed with the way he linked play during that time. When Zyro comes back he'll be a real good option there. Second half was in the right place to take his goal with a low curling shot - 8

Bright - Slow start and made the wrong decision a couple of times but settled into the game and got on the ball more and more and started to link play ok. Had a good chance after the ball was laid back to him 18 yards out but fizzed it just over. Rightly replaced by Saiss once we were ahead. - 7

Dicko - Still doesn't seem right but was much more involved in this game than his last couple. Gets out muscled too easily still but linked up with the midfield alright enough. - 6

Subs:

Saiss - Came on to shore up the midfield, as they weren't allowing Price time on the ball any more. Gave away a free kick 20 yards out with his first touch but settled down and got stuck in well, especially early on after Pereira came on to let him know he was there. - 6

Ronan - Started on the right in place of Costa but got moved the the left and swapped with Cav. I like the look of him. Very busy and doesn't let his small stature bother him. Makes sure he gets stuck in defensively. Definitely want to see more of him - 6

Bodvarsson - Worked the channels well but didn't have much time or chance to make any real impact. - 6

Yeah obviously but keepers aren't going to keep making the mistakes is the point i was making.

By the way love the Helder Costa last Christmas song.

Oh yeah was gonna mention that as I heard them all singing it on the way out of the ground!

"This year, to save me from tears, I'll give it to Helder Costa"

Quality.

I think the guy has Wander in his name too - destiny!

Bit harsh on their keeper, doesn't do justice to either Costa or Cav. Most players wouldn't shoot from where Costa is, the keeper isn't going to expect that and he can't react. Same for the second goal, Cav's body shape looks like he is going the other post - they were two very good finishes from players who can do something unexpected.

More experienced back four. Clean sheet.

Just releived at the 3 points, gives us some breathing space from the bottom 3, even if lambert continues on this form we'll be fine.
To be fair I think Lambert got his team selection spot on today played to the strengths of our two best players in the squad.
By all accounts Forrest are piss poor and I think they're in more danger of going down than than we are.
The way I see it now is 7 points out the last 4 with one garbage performance in there.

Two winnable games coming up (& PPB may see us win once during her time over here) then the transfer window - opportunity to move away from the bottom a bit

Probably left it later than we should to mount any serious challenge at the top 6, but if we can show that there is an imnprovment then possibility of reasonable quality of incomings during the transfer window

We'd need a two point per game average from here to the rest of the season to break 72 points, which is around the record low for a team finishing sixth. No chance of playoffs this season.

I doubt that that is a realistic expectation, but somewhere in the top half would be acceptable given where we are now - there are some positives, though a few more negatives at this point.

Man, that is some rancid goalkeeping from Stojkovic on both goals (assuming no deflection on Cav's). Awful keeper, one of the few worse in the league than Lonergan.

I was talking to a Forest ST holder last night who said he has been fantastic this year and has been far and away their best player this season.

Yeah, to put it into context, from Boxing Day onwards in 2014/15 - a spell where I thought on the whole, we were excellent and went on two separate runs of four straight wins - we picked up 47 points from 24 games. We'd have to exactly replicate that this year to get to 72 (which I doubt would be enough in any case - Wednesday and Derby just to name the two currently on either edge of the top six should get way more than that) and I don't have any faith in us putting that kind of run together with all the issues we have.

Winning some home games would be nice for the rest of the season, we've won six in the whole of 2016 which is shocking.
