Yeah this is it for me, as I've got older the WCs have become more about nostalgia to me. I utterly loved the South Africa 2010 World Cup despite being able to see the football was appalling, but it was the fact there was a mid-afternoon game to watch in the staff room at work, that I fondly remember it.

For me, the entertainment of the group stages when there are 3 games on a day is a superb experience as a TV fan, and not only that but my missus wants to watch them or at least have them on in the house as has been drawn in by the coverage, sweepstakes, sticker books and merch everywhere.

By the time the knockouts start you've seen every team and begun to get favourites etc. That feeling that every World Cup reminds me of Italy 90 when I was 8, and watching The England games at mine and then cycling to my Nana's to watch the Scotland games with her, can't be matched on an emotional level.

I think the amount of football on tele has had an impact on the novelty of the World Cup. Go back to the first one I can properly remember in '82 then the only live games on tele outside of it were some England Internationals, European Finals and the Cup Final. Everything else was just highlights. Obviously very different now

1970 World cup I found very exciting, tbf I was only 12 and it was the first one I watched (no memories of 66 unfortunately). Also as someone mentioned earlier the only live games on TV then were internationals and cup finals
