Farage Ltd and Similar Watch

Personally....

On the plus side: schools are better, crime is down and erm...faster internet?

As for negatives: utility bills higher and food more expensive.

Maybe the schools in Tower Hamlets aren't better. There were also some statistics given yesterday , that said that many crimes aren't being recorded.

Where I stay , I see more crime, lower wages , less job security, more youth unemployment, more traffic, more expensive food, less people going out to socialise, more shops boarded up, rents rocketing(£500 for a room in a shared house, zero contracts.......
lots of my mates kids have to have 3 part time jobs and still can't afford to leave home.
It is true that unemployment is much lower than in Spain. But I can honestly see more poverty and a less caring society in the UK than I did 10 years ago.

My point is, that they are the majority of the 50%, who don't vote. Maybe it is just as well, that they are more interested in come dancing and X factor. Because if they woke up, they might change the face of British politics, for good. I wouldn't hold your breath though.

I do find it odd that expats are often the most vocal about how bad the UK has become.

I did find, when I lived abroad, that I had an ideal of home, when I came back it certainly wasnt like my ideal memory.

I walked past one on the way to a sandwich shop at lunchtime the other day. Two lads were leaning against the wall (about 12ft from the front door) in school uniform smoking spliffs. That, in a nutshell, is what's wrong with the area.

Not enough benches?

Anyone think Proportional Representation would still be a good idea since UKIP's popularity has increased?

amazing how many people dislike the idea of democracy. always seems to be those who support a particular major party. battletwat on the mix was the same. why not have a king or a dictator since that produces much more stable government and is far less dangerous than letting the plebs have a say. clearly democracy doesn't actually work if more of it is so unpopular

Have these two by election victories by UKIP been just typical strange by elections results, or are they set to repeat these successes at the General Election?
By elections are funny beasts. They're more focused on local issues as they don't take place in the glare of a national campaign.

So when voters vote for UKIP it's tied to having a UKIP MP, whereas in A GE you can't separate that from the notion of Farage as PM, or power broker.

I think you might be able to say that if it was a routine Tory-Labour contest following the death of an MP. The national coverage of these last two by-elections suggests otherwise.
These are interesting times given the homogenous state of politics presented by the established parties with their careerist leaders. Remember that the Labour party was a new party a hundred years ago, able within a few years to displace the established parliamentary mix.

And what did you do about this?
