FA Cup - Wolves 1-3 Liverpool - Verdict thread.

Did we get confirmation that Sa was injured or was Edwards doing his nice-guy (and nonsensical) routine of "giving the other lads a go in the cup cos they work aaard in training"?

Not much to add other than we have zero depth beyond a first choice XI which is deeply flawed to start with, and it shouldn't shock me but it does how poor Johnstone is. He gets nowhere near the third, with an unimpeded view from miles out and it goes nowhere near the corner.
And it's really obvious from the way Jones is running and his body shape as to where he is likely to aim his effort.

Most clubs do this, plenty of things to have a go at Edwards for, this seems a stretch though, particularly as he said Sa had a knock.
If he's injured then he's injured, fair enough

If we were going to rotate anyway then it makes no sense as a) this was our last game of any importance between now and August and b) now that Sa has bothered trying again, he's far better than Johnstone (despite having his own multiple issues, and I hope they both leave in the summer)

Interesting take.

Judah & Spiers think we should be forming our squad around the likes of Bellegarde, Rodrigo, Hugo & Santi next season. Suggesting they are all “too good” for the Championship.
The Ballers Bueno I think will stay. Hugo should be fine at that level (I’d still bring in a LB, pending what we do with Wølfe, who remains a footballing enigma to me). Santi I think is a decent PL defender in the right setup, so he may attract some bids (not rich ones), but I’d make him the cornerstone defensively next season if he doesn’t ask out.

Jean I want to keep, but I think it’s too late on to really salvage his relationship with the supporters. He could crush it next season and then be immediately back to square one upon his first post-promotion mistake.

Rodrigo I also would prefer to keep, but he feels like one who may never get all the way out from under “potential”. For his own sake, he should probably be moved on, lest his career just stalls out with us. He’d be a cut above as a footballer at that level, IMV, but the physicality issues wouldn’t change much, if at all.

I actually think someone will buy Hugo. He shows enough in spells for someone who doesn’t pay enough attention to think he’s worth taking. He has improved a bit too overall.

Rodrigo will be interesting. He has the enthusiasm, speed and knack of scoring to be effective in the championship. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants to go back to Portugal.

Rightly or wrongly I don’t think TWF is a fair barometer of how he's viewed in the wider fanbase.

Definitely true; I suppose I haven’t seen anything to make me suspect that the wider sentiment toward JRB is more positive than here?

His performances against Villa have helped. I think most recognise he's one of the few players that can carry the ball, but is below PL level. I think if we play the same formation as we currently are he'll be very good in the Championship and is one of the few I hope stays.

Tbc, I don’t mean to imply that he’s got the same treatment as Hwang or Jackson (as examples). More that I don’t think anyone looks at him and says “aye, he’s changing the match in our favor”.

JRB is a midfield version of Armstrong.
He'll look good in the championship if he stays. But we all know he isn't PL quality.

If someone offers enough that we make a profit, he will and probably should go.

That’s not a vote of confidence in our ability to replace him, tho.
Can't see that, might get his book value though which is about £7m

Somewhere around the £15m mark wasnt it? A PL club isnt signing him and doubt a midtable Ligue 1 club throws that money around (although hopefully some mug does for Munetsi).

2 seasons of that have been written off now though.

Only 2 seasons, feels like he's been here forever. Dreadful footballer.
