I was at that game. Went 2 years running with my junior school in 82 & 83.

I went in 1989. Saw Ryan Wilson (Giggs) play for England vs Germany.

Think he and Adie Mike (who was an awful Carl Leaburn style striker) were the only two that made it.

I went to a school boys game at Wembley in the 80s. No idea what year or who it was though. Might have been England vs Scotland.

I must be old - went in 1972 (special school trip for the best football players at my primary school . . . train trip to and from London with our school teacher who ran the football team).

England Schoolboys vs West Germany - England won 4-0 . . . if memory serves me right.

Can't recall who played - would love to know.

Just seen this - thanks - where did you get the info. ?

So Ray Wilkins was playing.

It was played a week or 2 (or 3 or 4 . . . ) after the 1972 Centenary FA Cup Final between Leeds and Arsenal as I got the program for the final. It would also have been around the time when Wolves played the 2nd leg of the UEFA Cup Final against Spurs.

It was my FIRST visit to Wembley so very special.

Went 2 more times . . . 1974 and 1980 . . . I wonder what games they were ?

I wasn't born until the next week so my memories are vague about the game.

Was looking at that thinking any of those who made it must’ve turned professional around the time I was about 8/9 so could well have seen them play at sometime and tried to work them out without Googling.

Recognised the obvious one of RW, also John Trewick, figured the CW would likely be Clive Walker and the TR as Trevor Ross. The J. Rostron was bugging me as I could only think of Wilf Rostron of Graham Taylor’s Watford fame who was a similar age, but after giving up the net informs his full name is in fact John Wilf Rostron.

No idea about any of the others as didn’t want to research them all, but I’d imagine 5 out of 16 going on to have very good careers is probably a decent ratio with a few of the others no doubt kicking about in the lower leagues too.
