Everton 0-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Thank fuckity fuck for that. A draw would have probably been fair. Low quality, low entertainment. I'll take that over brave, 24 shot defeats any day of the week and gives us something to build on.

The positives; Sa at his best, a clean sheet, tactics improved after the break, a Sasa goal, promise from Fabio, three fucking points.

The epitome of a “grind it out” result. So proud of the players.

Very low quality game between two sides who looked extremely aware of the moment.

Everton may have generally kept the ball better and they did have their chances, but we are the ones who earned the victory and it truly took special contributions from multiple players. Excellent stuff.

Lots to improve, but roll on Blackpool.

These are the types of games we’d have lost a couple of years ago, so it’s good to be beating the teams who will be down in the dirt with us.

Only caught the second half. Backed a goal on 75mins on the basis that, with two sides that poor, one of them had to concede a goal at some point. Doubly delighted it was Everton, but my God, that was bad. So frustrating, because we do have talent in the side. Five yellows, was it? That sort of ill-discipline is going to cost us on the pitch as well as in suspensions. O'Neil need to sort that out sharpish.

Probably on the points we deserve after 3 games based on performances. Be nice if performances were picking up but Everton whilst lacking quality make life difficult. Saw about half the game and Sa far and away our MOTM. Glad I messaged my lad that Neto is where Wolves attacks go to die!

happy with any win no matter how unconvincing. a massive game to have any sort of luck in. but we have to improve as otherwise looking a long hard season.

Haha! I think sadly we probably need to get used to these battling, ugly performances against teams who will be around us. His Bournemouth side did it to us last year.
Yep, he hasn’t taken long to stop all that “attacking flair, no goals” shit…

We looked disjointed for most of that game, but so did our opponents. Sa was excellent. The defence did okay, save for Kilman who somehow manages to be passive one minute and rash the next. Dawson and Semedo both had good games. Ait-Nouri was okay, but he does some stupid things at times.

The midfield two weren't able to dominate at all, and the usual zip in the passing wasn't there. Neto was a mixed bag. I'd rather he played on the left as breaks seem to slow down when he's cutting inside, and twice he lost the ball trying to take people on the outside. Anyone other than Sasa in the middle from that deep cross and I doubt we'd have even had a shot on target from the opportunity.

Like the two midfielders, Cunha could not get into the game at all. No pass and move today.

Hwang was largely anonymous until he went off, although Bueno and he seem to have some sort of an understanding when in tight areas out on the left. This'll be Hwang's first 3-4 week injury of the season no doubt.

Silva looked weak up against Everton's defenders. Unlucky with the offside goal as it was a neat finish, but terrible decision making again when it came to the 1-on-1. Just go around the keeper.

Sasa looks like a striker who knows where the goal is. Very pleased for him and a really neat header. He showed his lack of match sharpness shortly after when hesitating on the ball when we had a break on instead of passing it. Hopefully that'll come, but I don't see him playing a full half for a while still yet.

Overall, a largely terrible performance against another terrible team. Maybe the pressure of the game caused this (despite it still being August ffs). Hopefully the squad and coaching team takes some confidence from it. I feel like this season is going to be very similar to last - some key wins here and there, but under the constant threat of a relegation battle.

We’ve been quite ill-disciplined and tantrum-y for a while. It really needs sorting.
Dawson wasn’t happy with Lamina and let him know when he picked up that yellow card for complaining

O'Neil has promised there are things afoot behind the scenes, whether we sell players or not. so there's incoming!!
So we will improve! It's been reported!!
Fucking mad the way my Saturday looks and feels better when we win!
Everything's going to be alright....
(Heads off to find the sheet music)

It's exactly the type of game Lage won between Sept and Feb the season before last
Yup

Dawson's yellow was for having the audacity to be ran in to. Five yellows is pretty standard these days, I don't think our discipline is anything out of the ordinary.
