Yeah somewhat predictably Semedo is getting blamed a lot, but anyone with eyes could see they were playing narrow, which is a problem when the opposition are playing WBs pushed high up.

They were basically 4 against 5 multiple times, the two DMs have to stop the ball getting past them and the wide forwards have to help out down the channels, and they just didn't do it.

They either had to match them 5 at the back, get the wide forwards to help out, or impose themselves on Germany pinning them back. Instead they just let Germany have the ball and left 4 up top. 2 CMs in the middle of the pitch with no one to mark as the overloads were out wide.

Having given it a bit of thought, and fully expect a few laughing emojis for this, I think Semedos problem is that he often tries to cover other people's mistakes which puts him in the wrong position or not challenging the player who should be his man. Likewise, for both club and country he does seem to find himself in positions where he's getting overloaded quite often. I'm not sure there is that much he can about that
