Euro 2020

Italy have wore white twice this tournament against Turkey and Spain.
I know but White is England’s home kit. Spain and Turkey is red so there is no clash with either Italy kit.

They will play in blue.

I was pleased to see that yesterday. Actually a bit of teeth in the sanction for a change.

It's been announced that this is the first and last pan European tournament. As every other nation is complaining about how it's advantaged us then we need to take advantage tomorrow as we won't be hosting another for a long time

Where did Italy and Denmark play most of theirs?
Don't think there was ever a problem with one country holding it and getting a home advantage....worked out ok for years.....feels like a problem that didn't need fixing?

Really? Patriotism is bullshit whatever the hue. I do really struggle to see any newspaper here publishing a front page supporting a team plying Scotland.

It depends what 'patriotism' means to the individual surely?....personally I think you can be patriotic without being racist or jingoistic.
I don't see the point in supporting your own countries team in a competition if you don't want them to beat other countries (same applies to following a club) to me thats patriotism, otherwise you're just watching football to enjoy it whoever wins and not bothered about the result.. which of course is fine if that floats your boat

I don’t disagree with that - it’s tribalism, England is my team but nothing other than that really. Anyone who is proud because they are English needs to have a good hard think about themselves.

There’s a difference between supporting your team, wanting your rivals to lose and printing it on the front page of your newspaper though.

Italy haven't had a home knockout game. The whole concept was flawed to begin with it came from Platini so that's to be expected, but there are 2 elements which add to the accusations of unfairness. Firstly, they put the semi and final both in England at a time when England are quite good and secondly Covid has meant that home advantage is exasperated fan wise. Without it, we'd only have an allocation on Sunday consistent with any other finalist, although obviously a lot of the 'neutrals' with tickets would have been English, but with Covid we pretty much will have the entire stadium. So in what was supposed to be a tournament without a home nation, we've pretty much been it from our teams perspective

It's not unfair because it's a product of circumstance, but it has given us a significant advantage

I know that's the new 'cool' stance to despise everything Monarchy, country, history, but out of curiosity what country would you be proud to be part of ?

Italy played all 3 group games in Rome then the Round of 16 game against Austria was at Wembley, the QF against Belgium was in Munich then obviously the semi and final at Wembley. Don't think they're too bothered, won every one of them anyway plus there are so many Italians here that they have had plenty of fans in anyway.

Mate of mine who I play football with, follows Wolves home and away, going tomorrow night - he's paid £2k for his ticket!

I think a bit of tribalism is perfectly normal and healthy. In a football context it's almost the whole point to many people.

As someone who hasn't lived in the West Midlands for over 20 years, being a Wolves fan, and raising my kids as Wolves fans, gives me a connection to an area, people and (of course) family that I love.

To misquote Samuel Johnson (a fellow Lichfieldian) however, there are plenty of scoundrels who bellow about patriotism in a nauseous and cynical manner. Look at how the flag and being a 'patriot' can be twisted in the US, for example. When I see meatheads in this country bellowing divisive crap while draped in the flag (be it St Georges or Union) it turns me off being 'patriotic' in a demonstrative way.
Likewise when people drone on about Shakespeare and The Beatles as if they get some reflected glory or credit from it, or when some (usually Conservative!) politicians use it as a shorthand way to try and be 'one of us', even though I probably have more in common with working class Irish and Polish people than I do them.

I love the English and British sense of humour and many aspects of our culture, and we have a fascinating history, but people who feel the need to foreground nationality constantly or wave flags in your face all time just make me suspicious of what they're really trying to say.

If you are working class and from Lichfield you must have gone to Netherstowe?
