Euro 2020

The guys at work are always so hopeful. But they have Lewa who is world class and everything else is barely serviceable
I like Milik but he had a howler of a World Cup.

Blaszczykowski and Piszczek are finished now, Glik is ancient too (but still in the squad). I do like Klich and Zielinksi but it's not enough.

Milik is out of the tournament

Benzema just come off in the France game with a hamstring problem, may be just a precaution though

May be a blessing in disguise, he always strikes me as a player who is disruptive

Someone explain when Che Adam’s and Lyndon Dykes turned into prime Brazilian Ronaldo?

If we get too the knock out stages in pretty good form and Maguire is then fit, then does he deserve to go straight back into the side, My opinion is definitely not.

I don't think you can do that. If we get through the group (well, we will) and then win the next game then the team is obviously doing ok without him. Plus how fit is he actually going to be if he's had no minutes in two months?

Neves starts for Portugal tonight. Patricio, Semedo and Moutinho on the bench.

Maguire has trained today although not likely to be involved against Croatia.

From the Gruniad...

Southgate is considering whether to switch to a back three in the likely absence of Maguire. With doubts remaining over whether Tyrone Mings, Conor Coady or Ben White are ready to partner John Stones in a back four, England have trialled Luke Shaw as the left-sided centre-back in a back three in training this week.

So would you say that Coady would be picked in a 3 or would he use Shaw and Walker/James to partner Stones in a three?

I think it would be:
James-Walker-Stones-Shaw-Chilwell if Shaw is LCB

That’s why he picked 6 FBs! Just play White or Coady FFS.

There should be no doubt in regards to Coady, he has proved himself every time he's put an England shirt on. Mings on the other hand...

If we are playing 3 at the back and Maguire is injured Coady is only there for his dressing room leadership if he doesn't play against Croatia

Saw a stat just now on Twitter that "England haven't won a match beyond the group stages of the Euros without going to extra time and/or penalties since beating the USSR 2-0 in 1968 in the third-place playoff", and had to go check if it was true. Now, I'm not as much of a stats nerd as a lot of you (and I'm pretty ignorant of a lot of pre-90s football, sue me), so I hadn't realised that this is just a more dramatic way of saying "England's record at the Euros is consistently shit". Beating Spain in 1996 on penalties is the only other non-group stage match England's ever won!
