Coronavirus

Hancock looking worse with each new release.
Simon Case being shown to be a vile cunt too.
Interesting that Boris though it "superb" 2 people got £10k fines for not isolating on their return from dubai. Kinda ironic this was released the same day as the evidence from the commons partygate probe where obvs no rules were broken...

Hancock being taken to court by the FDA Union due to his leaks to Oakeshott and subsequently the Daily Telegraph regarding the WhatsApp messages. They are saying that the messages and identities of Civil Servants have been compromised by leaks for the financial gain of others.
her breach of confidentiality basically becomes his. they’ll all deserve what they get which will hopefully be something nasty. I don’t know if the requirement to disclose everything to a public enquiry gets either off the hook given once things are public it’s no longer confidential. I guess many things, like specific identities, would be kept under wraps hence she goes for the public interest defence.

In messages leaked to the Daily Telegraph, Mr Hancock's political aide Allan Nixon suggested putting pressure on MPs elected in 2019 whose "re-election hinges" on central government funding.

Mr Nixon proposed warning Mr Daly that funding for a new centre for disabled children and adults in his constituency would be "off the table" if he voted against new plans for a stricter tiered lockdown on 1 December 2020.

Mr Hancock replied: "Yes 100%."

Mr Daly told the Telegraph he was unaware the Department for Health and Social Care had plans to give Bury North a disability hub, which would provide specialists with a dedicated centre for co-ordinating local activity.
Hancock is a fucking vile c=unt, is he not. threatening to withdraw disability support for loads of people to get his own way.

Just a warning If you think it’s all gone away.
I have avoided it completely since it started, by being very, very cautious.
Took Mrs HW to the Everton match last week. She tested positive on the Sunday evening. I tested positive the next day.
We have had a bad week. We have both been really ill.

She has finally tested negative today. I am still not very well.
Be careful out there……

It'll always be out there. The difference is that it isn't so prevalent that we *all* get it and the most vulnerable should be well enough protected so they don't die.

Unless you lock yourself away and never do anything or see anyone then there aren't any precautions you can take.

Well, that depends Dan.
You can wear a mask if you're under a roof. Shop or shopping centre, You can sterilise your hands and you can make sure your jabs are up to date. I'm on my 5th booster now.

Wearing a mask isn't protecting you from shit.

It protects others a little bit if you happen to be carrying it and you don't know.

Everyone washes their hands unless they're a manky bastard.

You can't get a jab unless you're 75+ in the UK or in an at risk group.

And if you're out and about don't stand closer than 6 foot from the person you're talking to and keep the 'contact' to less than 10-15'.

No one is realistically doing that are they. All to avoid possibly catching something that unless you have underlying conditions just means you'll be ill for a bit.

I do wish masking up when you're feeling under the weather had been normalized by the whole ordeal. At least over here we've gone right back to people showing up to work as per usual even when they feel sick (host of societal problems play into that, of course).

As Dan says the masks (for what little they can do) are more about stopping bad stuff coming out rather than bad stuff going in.

Presenteeism is nonsense, from my very small sample size of people I know (because of course I don't personally work in an office as it stands) it hasn't gone back to a pre-2020 mindset thankfully. If you're not well then keep away and do what you can from home is the message.

It's tough, because it wasn't long ago that I was in a position where paid time off simply wasn't a thing... So I have some grace for that.

My coworkers in development, though? We're not required to come into the office at all, yet there they will be, sniffles and coughs and all. Weirdos.

Seems to ebb and flow at my work.

From the company perspective they make a big song and dance about being a flexible, forward thinking employer who will accommodate personal needs and allow people to work where they need to, currently looking for a smaller office for the East Mids staff as a result. At the same time you get periodic passive aggressive emails around office presence, people are deterred from submitting formal flexible working requests in favour of wasting some other woolly bullshit policy on a flexible working request when it should be used for other things.

Similar mixed messages from staff, people make snide comments about others who frequently work from home but will soon do the same when it suits them. Particularly like when some senior staff angle this towards trainees if they ever request to WFH but will then completely exclude said trainees from activities in the office when they're there. Also get certain groups that turn up to work as a team but don't book a big meeting room and so dominate the whole open plan office being noisy as fuck then wonder why others might not want to go there. And don't even get me on the sudden constant office presence of a few chasing promotions who then suddenly completely disappeared again when the names had been picked, both winners and losers.

Illness rarely seems to be a key driver in their decisions to attend the office though.

WFH is our norm now though from April we are now asked to attend the office for team meetings and Professional Conversations, we have our monthly meeting tomorrow so I will be in the office

One day a week for Mrs DW though it's not mandated.

I've been thinking of doing something different - I don't especially enjoy what I do, and being freelance forever is less appealing when you have actual responsibilities to other people, because there's bugger all security - but it's going to be a deal breaker for me with any firm, I'm not doing more than 3 days a week in an office and that's a stretch. Had a firm approach me in February and after initial decent discussions they wanted a full-time presence (for no real reason as far as I could see), no ta then, I'll carry on doing what I've done for the last 13 years and wait for someone else.

Get on it!

I don't think I'll ever embrace WFH.

I used to love the office dynamic at my old place of work, pretty old fashioned set up but most people stayed there for a pretty long time so you built up good relationships with people. Kind of nice everyone having their place in a slightly bizarre rabbit warren of a building with random sized rooms dotted all over the place. Became very empty due to covid but there was still enough of a core group of people I worked with or got along with that kept the spirit there for the most part.

Never really had that feeling where I work now though, don't think open plan offices generally allow you to build that level of rapport because everyone is a bit more concerned with who might be watching or listening to really open up and be themselves. Lots more comings and goings in this business too, both in terms of people seeking other employment and just people spending time away from the office (myself included in that one). Only tend to average a day a week in the office at the moment and it's usually a pretty tedious affair, staring at a wall, trying to drown out all the background noise and hope against hope there's someone there I actually have any time for.

Office location will always be a big driver for me though, as much as I don't like WFH I really don't have much appetite for sitting in a car for a hour plus either end of every day anymore.

Apart from when I’m coaching (obviously) I have freedom to work how I want tbh. Very laid back in that sense no pressure to have an “office presence”. I choose to go in though because I’m rubbish at work/life balance so I try to keep my work away from home as much as possible so that I can try and separate the two..

Exactly where I'm at tbh.

Of course, I made the mistake of making my home desk too comfortable... If I go into the office I can't use my stupid $1600 Studio Display, and naturally I'm far too Bourgeois to dev on a less-than-5k screen now.

Stupid Apple with their stupid overengineered hardware and stupid me for always thinking "damn... this might have been worth it anyway".
