Today Dominic Cummings has been giving testimony to a committee of MPs about the Tory government's catastrophic mishandling of the coronavirus crisis.
There's a lot in there that reflects extremely badly on the government, but it's also absolutely damning on the people who are supposed to be holding the government to account too.
Cummings admitted that senior government ministers panicked and said stuff like "there is no plan, we are absolutely fucked" and "I think we're going to kill thousands of people" before the first wave of deaths, and that the government's actual plan of action in those early stages was to commit mass social murder by allowing the virus to spread like wildfire.
But while the Tories were setting the country on course towards mass social murder, Britain's disgustingly corrupted and complicit press pack decided to act as attack dogs for the government, by aiming barrages of criticism, condescension, and outright abuse at members of the public who dared to raise concerns.
When the hack pack derided criticism of the Tory government's mishandling of the crisis as "hipster analysis" it became obvious to all that a large percentage of UK journalists consider their job to be defending the interests of the government, and holding ordinary people to account!
Cummings also admitted during his testimony that the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg was his main media contact, who he fed the stories and lines that he and the government wanted to appear in the media, under the veil of anonymity.
Funnily enough Kuenssberg suddenly stopped live tweeting snippets from Cummings' testimony when he revealed her role in it all!
Cummings said that the Tory health secretary Matt Hancock was so disastrously incompetent that "he should have been fired for 10 or 15 things", and he and the Cabinet Secretary told Boris Johnson that he was completely unfit for the job.
However Johnson has such a lax attitude to corruption and incompetence that he's allowed Hancock to stay in position, even after it's been revealed that he's been using the emergency coronavirus budgets as a kind of personal slush fund to distribute to his friends, family, and even his former pub landlord!
Cummings also accused Hancock of lying about protecting care home residents, and that they'd be tested before being sent back into care homes from hospitals. This definitely didn't happen, and the virus was sent into care homes full of the most vulnerable people of all, causing huge numbers of deaths.
Johnson has subsequently claimed at PMQs that Hancock made no such assurances, creating a bizarre pyramid of lies. Either Johnson is lying about being lied to by Hancock, or Cummings is lying about Hancock's lies.
Given that these three men were at the absolute top of the UK's pandemic response, is it any wonder that so many people ended up dead?
If Britain was any kind of serious country whatever then Boris Johnson and Matt Hancock's positions would now be absolutely untenable (as would Laura Kuenssberg's job as political editor at the supposedly impartial BBC).
But Britain is a country without consequences anymore, for the privileged establishment class at the top. We've got a bigoted, lying, philandering oaf as Prime Minister; a health minister who should have been fired for a dozen reasons; a government absolutely stuffed with the corrupt and the incompetent; a mediascape absolutely stuffed with people who are utterly unwilling to hold their fellow establishment insiders to account; 150,000+ people are dead as a result of the catastrophic mishandling of the crisis; and most of the country don't even care enough to do anything about it!
