Coronavirus

I still say there is something we are not being told with this.

We dont actually know the death rate, because we simply dont know how many actually have the virus.
There is only one way to know how many have it and that's to test everyone in the country.

I.am going off my fucking nut cannot leave the house, still no word on what assistance is available to business owners.

The UK are doing it right, isolate those at risk, and those caring for those at risk, let everyone else out, to catch virus. The vast people get it mild, which is why it's so difficult to know the exact figures.

This will decimate, Spain, italy, Greece etc I just dont see the tourism industry recovering this year, I dont think 15bdays will arrest the virus.

When I went home post the Villa game, I came down with a virus, the symptoms were respiratory issues, temperature, mucus on my chest, tired, and aching. I went to the doctor around middle of December, I did not actually recover until late January.

However

It's the last paragraph that gives me hope that we've significantly underestimated how many people have had the virus and currently have it meaning were much further up the curve than we think we are.

Although it could have been 'just' normal flu

When did UK start testing? If it was only last couple of weeks, then surely it's likely. And if so, maybe Boris should say so to try and curve some panic.

Please, feel free;

Stanley Johnson, father of the UK prime minister, has indicated he would ignore official advice to tackle the spread of coronavirus and still go to the pub.

His comments came a day after Boris Johnson urged everyone to “avoid pubs, clubs, theatres and other such social venues”.

The Prime Minister said the advice was particularly important for people over 70. But Stanley Johnson, 79, said: “Of course I’ll go to a pub if I need to go to a pub.”

The apple didn't fall far from the tree there.

I think that you're both clutching at straws. This thing is killing a large % of people in certain age categories and evidence of this would have been out there by now if the virus was already in circulation.

Possible;

He told a daily conference said that 99 per cent of registered cases had so far survived the illness, and although he had “no idea” what the death rate will eventually be, at the moment all evidence points to the fact that only 1/5 of persons infected will be seriously ill.

Four out of five people will suffer only light symptoms or none at all. And according to information based on existing and previous cases, only around half of those who will be infected, actually get sick, “the other half do not notice it at all”, he said.

The RKI is developing various tools to assist Germany’s medical system, including one which monitors intensive bed capacity in order to enable the optimisation of the health system.

this is probably what makes it such a problem....we're spreading it without ever knowing it, whereas a normal "flu" or even a bad will keep us pretty much out of action or at least at home being careful :(

His choice isn’t it? If he wants to risk getting it to have a pint, that’s his choice?

I’m gobsmacked by the amount of people at work who sneeze or cough then make a quip and giggle about “must have that coronavirus” then five minutes later ask who wants a cuppa and collects everyone’s cups without any handwashing or sanitising.

Tough luck on the bar staff who serve him too. They should have worked harder at school and got a better job.

Didnt i hear that this virus produces no flem?, a dry cough but not a full on, old man bringing up flob spitting in the gutter thingymajig.

His choice isn’t it? If he wants to risk getting it to have a pint, that’s his choice?

what about him getting it and then requiring a ventilator for 2-3 weeks because he fancied a pint depriving someone else that ventilator

utterly irresponsible, selfish and dangerous for something avoidable

Judging by what was said yesterday, it won’t be his choice by the weekend as he will be starting 12 weeks isolation due to his age. Probably for the best...

Anything happens to him,or any other MPs family members, they'll be at the front of the queue for treatment and stuff the rest of us

I think if you get a touch of pneumonia you'll be coughing up stuff

I don't think all instances of coronavirus end up being pneumonia though

Do you think we have seen much panic so far? A bit of panic buying of loo roll and pasta, aside from that?

If anything i'm surprised how limited the panic is given the maths suggests anything between 200-500k of people could die from this.

You've slightly missed my point

If loads more people have had or have the virus than we think.

Say 500k actually have but we only think 50k have it and what we're seeing in hospitals right now is the impact of 500k people having coronavirus it makes the numbers look a lot lot better

We may also have lots more people with immunity than we think (assuming we become immuy)

You think it is only 'flu'?

It's not "only" flu, but my point is rather that diseases which leave younger, healthier people unaffected while older and more vulnerable people can be seriously injured or killed are not exceptional - it's pretty much how all the flu strains work, with some rare exceptions like the Spanish Flu's higher mortality rate among people in their 20s.

+407, total 1,950.

Although they think we actually have up to 55,000 cases.
