Don't think its going to make much difference to what was going to happen anyway, those of us who are careful will still be careful even if we have the full 3 family bubble, those fuckwits that will abuse the relaxation of rules would have done that anyway regardless of any restrictions

Not sure I agree with the final part of that, like the rest of lockdown there would have been those who ignored the rules, but I think there will be way more rule breaking with some slack than none. The tiers are going to be tougher than before for the month leading up to xmas and for the 3 months afterwards, but for 5 days people will visit whoever they want whenever they want. Other than Booz's assessment of 'fatty saves Xmas' it makes no sense to me. There's not even the economic argument

The 5 day relaxation will just let the rule followers have a guilt free chance to see some of their family. There's no doubt Christmas will mean another spike in cases, not sure the size of the spike is relative to whether we are allowed or not

I can't speak for anyone else, but speaking for myself if household mixing was banned then I can categorically say we wouldn't have seen anyone. Now I have a 75 year old father who lives on his own who I've not seen since the weekend before Brum went into tier 2 and my wife's family which includes 4 households including our own who we'd normally spend Boxing Day with - cutting two out whichever way it went would be problematic for obvious reasons. So am I going to break the rules for the first time since March? At this stage I honestly don't know, but I do know that there's a greater chance now than there would have been with no mingling

Kids being in school until the 18th December means that grandparents /great grandparents won’t be safe.

My parents (80 + 78) won’t be mixing, they’ve stated that they’d sooner see Christmas in 2021 than risk anything now. For me it’s easy as sticking to my own household is the only choice due to one of us being in the extremely vulnerable category.

rightly or wrongly I tend to think most of the people on this forum are thoughtful and sensible and most likely to follow the rules and not representative of the population as a whole.
Just been having a conversation with my 3 kids and it looks like we won't see any of them in a xmas bubble. They are worried that forming a bubble with one set of parents mean the partners parents will be left out. Hopefully we will be in tier 2 and so can see them individually outside.

3 households will be a problem for many - if I go and see my sons on Christmas day then in theory their wife/partner shouldn't see their parents the next day.

I will cope & will offer my services as a driver/helper at the community lunch in town if needed (can't hold it as a communal lunch as usual for obvious reasons this year so being delivered out individually).

Can still do myself a 'mean' feast later on & do a zoom call with the boys in the evening - not perfect, but it's only one day.
