5Live are stating on the News Headlines - Essential Work only. This is wrong. Where is essential work listed on the Government advice leaflets?

Same here. People are whining because the website says "key workers".

Have you a link for that Bear as I've not found it. It doesn't say that on the 6 page revised guidance document.

That was 9:30pm last night. They've changed it now to "essential work"

Which people still think means essential workers. Which it doesn't. It just means work that you can't do from home.

Interesting to see your boss hasn't sent you home as I presume your wages are guaranteed up to 80% by the government.

Pretty irresponsible from your employer imo.

How is following government advice irresponsible?

You seem to have interpreted the advice differently to me.

I took key workers to mean something very differently to you and Bear. Maybe the government should be clearer.

Johnny can you provide me with a link to the advice that says key workers, as it would make life easier.

BBC were flipping between only key workers and those who have to travel to work last night which just adds to the confusion.

As it stands - The Government have announced businesses that have to close. Everything outside of that list is business as usual but if they have staff that can work from home, they have to.
The wage help though does give businesses the flexibility to close if they wish.

Online businesses can continue as the Government have also confirmed non essential deliveries can carry on.

A few people at our place have kicked off this morning about the fact that we are still open. I expect we will open until told otherwise by the government although I am concerned about the prospect of going on short time as some of our bigger customers are closing down.

I have no idea if we are classed as 'essential work' or not as it is not clear but I expect our head office must have been given some guidance on this. As pallet & packaging makers I presume we are needed to keep the supply chain moving.

Morning all - hope everyone is okay and keeping well!

I know I'm very very fortunate in that I can do everything I need at home - all I need is a laptop and access to my database. But a lot of people I know aren't so lucky.

I'm pretty sure my mum will be told today that she's at risk and will have to stay at home for 12 weeks. It's her 70th birthday on Sunday :(
My dad had a letter a week or 2 ago, as he's up the hospital as frequently as some nurses...

My moms birthday was a couple of days after he had the letter. Mothers day yesterday was postponed too. My brothers birthday is this weekend. Spoke to him the other day, and he suggested we have a family mini christmas in october or something, and everyone can exchange presents then!

My only worry/creeping fear, is the possibility exists that I might not see one, or both of my parents again. Managing that is my personal challenge at the mo!

The last couple of pages just highlight how vague and ambiguous the government is making policy and public statements. FFS, this is a time for clarity, not back covering.

Standard stuff though. Boris does a speech and confuses everyone and over the following hours the Government have to release further to clarify. So either Boris is shit at getting his message across or whoever is writing his stuff is a clueless gimp.

Reading the stuff that has come out after the speech, it is pretty clear to me and who and who cannot work. There is still an amount of trust being put into the general public and businesses.

Maybe he should make his announcements in Latin as he cant explain in normal English

Very conflicting messages from all over the place. The government aren't clear on this at all.

Too true, and the outcome is people who don't know shouting at people who also don't know and calling them stupid, morons, selfish etc.

What a fucking shit show.

My company's directors think it's "key workers" only so have stopped everything, so they are losing money they don't need to.

We are open. Overtime ban but that’s it. If construction is still open we are in the supply chain.

I guess your employer has taken the view that human life is more important than money and is limiting the spread of disease.

The pictures of the hospital staff on social media with placards saying stay at home are pretty telling.

No, they have misunderstood the ambiguous advice from the government, had it been clearer then site visits etc would still be going on, rest assured.

This has just been on the local radio as well. Seems the government are sending a message out to everybody's phone with this message.
