Chelsea 2-4 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Well, Doc

But there's no point making sense of that deal
He’s exactly what anyone with the gift of sight expected! Also he wasn’t here under Lop so wasn’t included in my thoughts.

The Premier League is nearly 32 years in existence, it's just shorthand for "modern day" really isn't it.

Pretending football was the same in 1985 is way weirder, it makes you Richard Keys.
I'm not doing that though am I?

I am saying that post stating there are only 4 players to score a hat trick at Stamford Bridge is patently wrong, because it is.

It's a useful demarcation given (what I understand was) a big change in how much cash could be injected into the whole system starting in '92.

Yeah, tbf you're right here, Talking Shite Lite worded their own tweet poorly.

But people who rage about it when you quote PL-only stats are almost exclusively gammon coloured.

Fantastic away win, a Premier League hat-trick for Cunha, scoring goals for fun - this is great! Shame we didn't hold on for the draw the other night as what a 7 days that would be after beating Albion. Must say I felt quite pessimistic prior to kick off and when 'Pall-mer' gave them the lead I feared the worst but this team doesn't give up and plays without fear.

Good, gutsy display today from the lads, shame we conceded the Thiago Silva goal as made things ever so slightly more nervous than they needed to be, especially with 10 minutes added on.

Two games running we've been awarded penalties too, not sure what is going on but I like it!

Fair play to Gary O'Neil, he's far exceeding expectations and doing the unthinkable in making us better to watch and far more potent in front of goal.

I'm a gammon then because I think it's bollocks eg Kane chasing Alan Shearer's goalscoring record which excludes those scored in Division 1

You can add Shearer's 23 goals if it makes you happy :D

If Kane comes back inside the next 3 years it'll likely make no difference and it definitely wouldn't have if he stayed.

Just moves on to Jimmy Greaves he's chasing. The PL revolutionised football from a financial and coverage perspective, it didn't change the fundamental structure of the league. The top division is the top division. We don't ignore European Cup stats when talking about the Champions League, same difference.

To be honest with that one I do to a point, it's not the same competition. You used to get some criminally easy routes to the final.

Me too. It's total nonsense basing all your records off a name change. Nothing else changed. It's really bizarre.

Although there was a much smaller gap between leagues in those days. Players didn't move abroad as much and the champions would usually have the best of their nations talent playing for them. It is a much harder competition to win now though clearly.

I'm sure a lot of us have said something along the lines of "I'd take midtable obscurity every season if it's entertaining football", and by God when we're on it we're entertaining. High pressing, blistering counters, men in the box, aggressive passing, quality ball carriers, heart, character and bollocks... It's everything I want out of a team.

Yes, on another day those deflections are blocks and it's a different game - but we're giving ourselves chances to score rather than just getting pointless territory.

We'll obviously have scary periods in every game - you can't have one without the other at this level.

They're pretty much universally likeable lads - even Doc if you look past his hair and his work rate - and obviously the gaffer is a really likeable guy too. The players clearly like *and* respect him, and it's not often you get both. He's proving himself, he really is.

An outstanding game of football, it really did look like two good sides going toe to toe, and could've been 4-2 either way, but in the round we deserved it, and tbh I think we just wanted it more.
